Can any Platinum owners provide some feedback on how well the heating and cooling functions work on the front seats? I have a 2012 Maxima and the cooling and heat can only be felt in the seat back which is still nice but the seat area would be nice too.
I can't speak to the heating function as I just bought mine earlier this month but the cooling function works well. It's kind of loud as you can definitely hear it ventilating but not annoyingly so.
You may wanna have the ducts looked at within your Maxima's climate controlled seats. They should have cooling/heating in both the seat bottom and back. I had a 2012 Maxima SV with them...and they could be felt in both the seat bottom and back. I have read in the Maxima forums that some of the ducting under the seat can become disconnected...or was that way from the factory. This wasn't the case with mine as they worked perfectly...just like my 2015 Platinum Murano.
I like the ventilated seats a lot in the Murano - the heat is quite strong, but takes a few mins longer than the non-ventilated variety to get up to temp. It also heats/cools up to my shoulders, my previous car only went up to the lower back.
Yes...both the seat back and base get cool/hot depending on the setting. This should also be the case with your Maxima with climate controlled seats. I know...I owned a 2012 with them and they worked great...heating/cooling in both the base and back. If the seat base isn't' getting cool/hot...something's wrong with the air ducting in the seat or something on your Maxima.
Here's a link to a thread that discusses some of the issues with the 2009-2014 Maxima Climate Controlled Seats:
I fought that battle and gave up. My lease ends the beginning of October so not a big deal at this point. How did you find the transition from your 2012 Maxima to the Murano? Obviously they are 2 different vehicles but I'm curious how you found the switch. I'm really looking forward to having an AWD vehicle for the New England winters.
I needed more utility than my Maxima could provide...so I decided to trade it off. I knew they were going to be different vehicles, so I set my expectations accordingly.
I knew it wasn't gonna handle as well...and the steering was gonna be lighter. Power was gonna be less as well. After lowering my expectations...I have been pleasantly surprised at the Murano. It is more luxurious than the Maxima was...in terms of ride and comfort. It handles very well for its intended purpose, and the steering...while lighter...still has nearly the on-center precision...and just enough feel to keep me happy.
The fuel mileage has been a major bump compared to my Maxima. The power is good...but not as quick as the Max...but it wasn't expected to be similar either. I could use more though...and that would be icing on the cake.
I'll say this though...as soon as this Murano is paid off...I will be either buying or leasing the 8th Generation Maxima SR or Platinum. I test drove the first one at my local dealership after it came off the truck...and it did bring back some good memories. Eventually I'll have both the Murano and the new Maxima in my stable. It just didn't make financial sense at the time to keep my 2012 Maxima SV at the time when I needed the added utility of the 2015 Murano.
Thanks for the detailed analysis. Pretty much what I expected. The new Max is a nice vehicle but I can't get past the grill. Looks like a bass but that's just my personal take. My last 3 cars have been Maximas but I skipped on the last version as I didn't like that one either. 1996, 2003, 2012.
