04 SL bought in Feb 2004. Currently out of warranty.

Yesterday I got the dreaded brake+battery light both on, while I was in the middle of a highway 30 miles from home. Luckily I was able to make it back home without a problem.

I never received a recall notice and was hoping (I know wishful thinking right?) that I was not affected by the alternator defect. I called the dealer to make an appointment and they ran the VIN in the nissan database and it came up with "no outstanding recalls".

I was then told that I will have to pay out of my own pocket for the alternator repair. I was also told that I would have to take it up with Nissan Corporate if I wanted it repaired under recall. Anybody else have a similar issue? Any suggestions on how to get it fixed under recall?
