Default Why so painfully slow early in the morning?

For the past several months, whenever I try to access the website, it takes as much as ten minutes for the initial page load. After that, things are sort of laggy for another ten minutes or so.

This lasts from about 7:30 through around 9:00 Eastern.

From three different computers (Win2K AS, WinXP Pro SP2. Using three different browsers (IE6, IE7, and Firefox. On three different networks (DSL, and T1).

After the first round of what seems to be waking up the server, things are fine from that point on.

UncaDanno-

I have experienced the same problem from time to time. Some days it is lightning quick while other other days (like today) it is painfully slow. I know it is not my PC nor my ISP because other sites work just fine.

Hopefully our ADMIN can tweak the server to improve performance.

Same issue here, for a while now. I just figured it was a known issue. It is quite annoying though.

After reading the subject, I thought this thread was going to be about me (personally, not my internet)...

The speed is now back to normal but the Spell Checker screen comes up blank. What's going on, ADMIN?

Does the slowness correspond to number of users logged in? Just throwing a guess out there.

I never even knew we had a spell checker, but now I see the button below. Still too lazy to use it though.

HA! No kidding. I love the "form spell checker" that Firefox now has. Very handy, no additional buttons/screens to deal with.

I have also noticed slowness, but not at any set times. It will even time out occasionally, which happens AFTER the top banner loads.

Another typical morning... This damn forum is painfully slow. It takes forever for a page to refresh and sometimes nothing comes up but a blank page. Earlier it asked me to log back in. What's going on here?

Moderators, can someone please alert ADMIN and let him know there is a problem?

Moderators (Eric, Jaak, Kris, KSmurano, Enforcer)-

Can someone please contact the administrator of this forum and advise him that the forum is pitifully slow during the early hours of the day. According to the stats only 2 users and 16 guests were logged in yet it took over 4 minutes for the main screen to come up and another three minutes to get to the forum pages. This is a common problem that has been reported by several users. Why have we seen no improvement? Has anyone even contacted the ADMIN?

By the way, why do we have moderators that are no longer active users? Jaak is rarely on the forum and Enforcer has not posted since January. How can you moderate if you are no longer participating?

Joe,

I am experiencing same problem with the site speed or responsiveness. Or rather lack of this.

Jaak, Enforcer - do not ask me. Ask Admin...

I have not noticed any change in responsiveness but I do believe it is happening to you. I suggest you PM "admin" and include a link to this thread.

I find it takes a few months every time I load the site. But that's me, not checking in, not the site. It's nice and snappy fast right now!

It does share the server with other sites, so that could be part of it.
