Replacing headlight - how to

Hey Guys,

I'm puzzled about how to replace the head light on my 04MO. I thought I was going to simply pull out the bulb but my hands don't fit between the metal plate and the headlight assy. to pull out the bulb.

I got as far as removing the whitel shield covering the bulb assy. but I didn't pull hard enough to break something...yet.

Thanks for any help.

cobannero-

I just went out to the car and was able to access my driver-side headlight bulb.

I found it was easier to stand in front of the MO and work the ring with my right hand. There is room behind the plate to back the assembly into.

He doesn't say whether HID or halogen. In either case it is easier to remove the wheel well splash shield and get it from there....

njjoe - I tried both hands but mine just don't fit in there to give me any movement. I also tried turning/moving things with the tips of my fingers but can't get leverage.

ekaxel - I think going thru the wheel well shield is going to be my way thru (never thought of that one.

btw - they are halogen

Thanks guys for your help. I can always count on this site far more than any dealer in my area for an honest answer.

I was able to replace my halogen (both sides) from the top fairly easily... remember there is a ring that needs to be turned then the socket is rotated and then bulb comes out. (As I recall).

Which bulbs are you using for replacement? See my gallery for some sample pictures I took with various bulbs.

I'm struggling on this. One of mine (passenger side) went out so I figured I'd just replace both lights, opened up and (I'm a big dude - 6'6 400+) my hand didn't fit (no surprise, I've seen civics with mroe engine room than my car )

I played around for 20 minutes and loosend the white thing aroudn the back of the bulb, but I can't seem to get the actual bulb. Please dont' tell me I've got to remove the wheel, then the well just to replace the lights?

I love my car...I really do, but I'd love to have a few boxing matches with the Nissan engineers & designers...

Oh and for kix and giggles I read thru the owners manual where it had a section on doing alot of the maintenance, and outside of changing the battery everything ends up saying "go to the dealer"

AFter you losen the white color the bulb with harness roates about 45°. Then it should just slide out. I was able to do with both sides from the top of the engine.
