The recent renewal of the discussion about who would buy a second Murano, brought another question to mind. How many long term, 1st gen Mo owners are left here - ie those who bought their cars new in 2003, 04 or 05, and still have them?
I thought of this recently, when I realized that I bought my 04 SE new in 10/04 and therefore, just celebrated 10 years of ownership.
I held my 04 for 6.5 years and let her go to my wife's dismay. Sellers remorse after the fact.
When she saw the 14 deals, she showed me and I was stunned by the huge discounts.
That started the ball rolling for my second Murano.
I was happy to be back on the board and see some familiar names. It was like I came home again. Kind of sad to see so few of the old time names. When this board started it was like a cult. I could not wait to get home and see what the guys were chatting about. Someone (forget who) likened it to a bunch a guys sitting around a table or a garage and sharing stories. It took me months to even realize the Murano had a nylon pull tab to recline that back seats. That was one of the tidbits I picked up on the board.
I hope your post brings out some original board guys from the 03-04 era.
Where is Gonzo?
Bought mine new in 2004 and held it for 8 years before selling it in 2012. You are so right about sellers remorse... And yes, I remember the old days when the board felt like "family". Not many old timers are left though...
I just sold my 2003 Murano that I purchased in October of that year. I have to say it was the most reliable and failure free vehicle I have ever owned. It was still running and driving nicely with 148,000 accumulated miles. I needed something smaller and more economical and wound up with a 2015 Mazda CX-5 with The Grand Touring Package. It does not drive or ride nearly as well as the Murano and I miss that, but I knew it was a much more basic vehicle when I purchased it. I just hope it proves to be as reliable as the Murano.
So I have a little over 10 more months to match you, rwm! But currently at 111K, and having put just 3K miles on it this year, I won't be anywhere near the miles your Mo had at `only' 11 years old.
I have a 2004 2-door G-35 coupe with 42K miles. She lives in the garage and does not go out in the rain. A few weeks ago someone asked if it was brand-new? I laughed and said, no, 10 years old, it just looks brand new. Paint is factory shine, no dents, dings or chips.
I did just sink $785.00 into it for new tires last week but that's about all she needed.
Stiil I toy with selling it and getting a second Murano (at the great deal discounts). My wife is not thrilled with driving in a 2 door coupe which she claims she feels she is sitting on the roadway as it's seating is probably a foot lower or more than the Mo. When ever we run errands, it's in the Murano so maybe it's time to sell the G-35 but I would have a hard time parting with it.
Funny, Bob, the G's were definitely on my shopping list when I got ready to replace my old Max a few years ago. I've had such great luck with Nissan products over the years, I wanted to upgrade a little, yet stay in the Nissan family.
Unfortunately, neither Nissan nor Infiniti made a coupe OR sporty sedan with the features I wanted - notably AWD and a MT. That left me with either Subaru, Audi or BMW. I've always wondered about the fuss over bimmers, so I made the plunge (9/11) on an 08 335xi. I went as sporty as I could get for a sedan - including the sport seats, steering wheel, aluminum trim, and minimal electronics (no premium package). The one-owner, just off lease 335 I bought had 35K miles when I got it just over 3 years ago, and now has 75K. My wife and I took 6 trips with it from New England to VA last year to visit our kids/grandkids, and 3 more similar trips this year. We even ventured down to NC on 3 of those trips, and drove to FL on one of them.
So far so good, though the bimmer certainly isn't as comfortable (especially with run flat tires) as a trip car for `older' peeps like we are probably should be. And, in retrospect, since we are both retired and spend so much time south of New England, I could have easily given up the AWD.
Sorry for the thread jack. Oh wait, it's MY thread - never mind.
bought new 04 SE, modified to look like an 06/07 Since 6/04 still going strong. Knock on wood. Normal maintenance wear and tear items. Transmission under warranty 3 years ago
Keep daily driving our 04 SE for another (11th) year, hopefully spending another $0 on maintenance. Last thing (besides fuel and the annual inspection)I did, was a $34 oil/filter change 9/13.
I still have an 03 which I bought in 2005. Currently 270K kms on it. So it is 11yrs old now and am planning to keep for another 2-3yrs. If I hadn't bought the Pandora body kit I guess I would be selling it now.
The next mod that I will be doing in couple of months will be getting rid of the orange screen.
Just hit my tenth year. Overall, this is the best vehicle I ever owned. Not too big not too small. Enough power, economy, smooth and great for road trips. At about 104K I have spent about $200 in unscheduled maintenance. I do the work myself so this is parts only.
Though I have not been a great contributor to this site, I have been around a long time. Several mods have been performed from suggestions on this site such as Infinity speakers(Great upgrade) and low level amp input. I see Bob1 and Zebelkhan are still around. There were others such as jaak and Mr. 3000 who gave a wealth of knowledge for the do it your selfer.
And yes bob1, it was like a cult following. Strange for a CUV.
Been following this forum for years and I finally bite the bullet and register. I enjoyed reading and learned from knowledgeable members. I hope I could contribute too.
Hi, I'm mew here but had to reply to this thread. I'm the 2nd owner of my 2003 AWD SL MO. Love it! 1st owner was a doctor who took very nice care of it. With 180k it drives awesome, I will be trading it in though. I really like the 2015's and the dealer is giving me $4900 for it.
Wow, thanks for responding here with this info, killer. Who knew a 12 year old car with that kind of mileage would fetch almost $5K on a trade in? Gives me hope for my 04 (an SE no less) with `only' 111K.
Then again, currently putting about 3K miles per year on my Mo - my 355xi is my DD and trip car - theoretically it could last another 30 years. My 94 Maxima had 224K miles on it when I traded it in 3 1/2 years ago, and it was still running strong. Have to love Nissans.
Bought my 05 in December of 2004 and still have it with over 179,000 miles on it and still going strong. Just bought a 2014 Platinum with 1500 miles on it. So far so good.
