Hey guys, i live in Vancouver, BC.
I have an '11 LE AWD with about 16000 km (9940 miles) and im only getting something like 15.3l/ km (15.5 mpg) for 80% city (downtown, so traffic light in every block) and 20% highway. I have read people where they can actually get something like 18mpg for the city. I also climb a few steep hills everyday (the one on royal oak, Vancouver people should know it i think ). I am using premium gas now to give me 15.5 mpg, before i only got 14mpg with regular. So my question is, what is everyone else getting for their fuel economy? If any of you live in Vancouver , please share ![]() Thanks!!! |

The first 3 years of my 04 AWD muranos life was spent driving up and down the hills of SF and we be lucky to get 16 mpg. So I think you are in the range. I too use premium. If you do more freeway drivng it should improve. And since you only have 9k on it it will improve as it gets older too.

Yep, especially in cooler weather. I'm at 16-17mpg with 87 octane driving 80%+ city in California. I was getting 18-19mpg in my BMW 330i driven the same way. So it doesn't seem that bad to me.

Those who claim they're getting 18 in the city must be believing the dash display on average fuel consumption. Don't believe those averages. If you compute it yourself, you will see the onboard computer is consistently a couple of miles/gallon on the high side. I'm like you (80% city) and my 2011 LE AWD gets about 18 mpg overall, but the dash display shows 19.2.

I don't really pay attention to gas mileage in city driving. It's never going to be that great. Where I want decent fuel economy is on a trip. I'm getting 23 in the MO vs 28.5 in the Max, but it's a trade-off I made to get more room and utility. Not a big issue for me.

These are NOTfuel economical vehicles to drive. I've tried all sort of variations trying to come up with the best solution....and I think the bottom line is directly related to your foot on the accelerator.
I have used 87, 89, and 91 octanes....I tend to stick with the 91 because of some propaganda that claims that 91 produces less carbon on your valves and overall is a better fuel to use. I'm not sure that's accurate. I think the higher octanes will give you slightly better mileage because they produce more power and therefore less of a tendency to press down on the accelerator to get the same performance...MAYBE....but in reality...if you can get 18 mpg overall, you're doing well. On a long trip, I've tried setting the cruise control at 60 and have goten up to 23 mpg....but if I drive it (like I usually do) at 65 or 70+, I get back into the 18 mpg on the highway. City driving drops me to around 15-16 mpg. Sorry...but this in not a fuel conservative vehicle.

Remember, you are basically pushing a box down the road. I don't know what the coefficient of drag is for a MO, but it has to be much higher than for a Max. Then there is the extra weight, and all the other assorted AWD stuff that causes a drag. 18 overall sounds good. Mine is doing about 17.7 mpg right now. It's not a vehicle I'd want to drive 50 miles one way to work everyday, but we don't use ours like that.

Hi there
I am in Vancouver area, too (Richmond) I have 2011 SL, purchased in Jan 2011, now is around 12000km. we have similar driving condition, but i have more city driving. around 10% and 90%, with premium all the way I got around 7.9 km/liter, around 18.5 mpg (us gallon) but, i drive slower.... in richmond, start with 2000rpm, once it reach 50km/hr, i let the engine drop to 1200rpm, either keep the speed there or go to 60km/hr this way i save fuel, and no speeding ticket. how u drive really effect the mpg but, Vancouver traffic is worse than Richmond tho~...XD note: us gallon and canada gallon is different. but i am using us gallon here. |

I just did 130 miles, 90% on LA freeways, today and averaged 24.6mpg with lots of 70-75mph cruising. You'd need to downsize to a compact car to save a gallon of gas per day doing a 100 mile R/T commute. Not worth it even if you commute that far IMO. The Murano blows away a compact car in the comfort department.

I get about 23-25mpg. I drive back county roads 60 miles one way to work. Had a HHR and only got 26mpg. So the Murano wins! |
