Common guys, be careful. We are going to be accused for............sexism!...
I love how this discussion has turned out. At least since I have the NAV system I do not have to prove anything...........this thing does it for me.......

I think 6.9 seconds is overly optimistic.
We all know the MO is not a rocket when leaving the starting line. In fact, she is a bit sluggish for the first second or two. I am sure a 3.5-liter MO with a 5-speed manual could easily do 6.9. I just don't think it is possible with the CVT. -njjoe

FX35 AWD with 280 HP, 400 lb heavier, 5speed auto does it in 7.3 sec. I know, I checked it out.
FWD murano with the same engine as FX and 5-speed aouto tranny is likely to go sub-7sec. But not stock Murano woith CVT........

Those figures are nothing more than a pipe dream. If you believe those then then you must believe the Veracruz posted on the same page as 6.8. That puts it faster than the Murano.

Maybe those were taken downhill in a hurricane? Or maybe they were using a stock Mo shifting gears with an SE Tiptonic style or in the "S" mode? After reading a few more reviews I agree 6.9 is a little too optimistic, it was just the first thing that came up in the Google search. I wanted to believe it sooooo badly.
![]() I also read something about the sluggishness of the Mo. Apparently the CVT "lowest gear" is higher than what other cars have. I guess that was an issue the CVT has. I heard they increased the range in the newer version so maybe it has a bottom end now? Still wouldnt trade the CVT I just hope it doesn't affect its towing ability. |

Only had about a couple of weeks in the saddle of the Veracruz but here's what I got so far.
I had a 2004 Murano, loaded minus navi which I traded in after 3 1/2 years of very reliable use for a Hyundai Veracruz Limited which is basically the fully loaded model. Air conditioning system in the Veracruz is amazing and I would say twice as powerful at that of the Murano not to mention it gets cold in like 5 seconds. The quad rear adjustable ceiling vents and pillar vents makes the rear about 5 times better than the Murano. There is an independant fan in the rear and there must be a seperate AC for the rear also because condensate AC drip is coming from the front and rear. Gas consumption is already a notch better than the Murano and I suspect it will further improve with mileage. Fuel gauge is very accurate and starts moving almost right after refuelling whereas the Murano will do 100 km before even starting to move. The reality on the Murano is when the gauge reads 3/4, you actually only have 1/2 a tank left. I use cruise control quite a bit and when dropping out from cruise or skimming the brake pedal, there is no noticeable quick deceleration but I guess that has more to do with the compression braking on the MO. Still needed to be pretty good with the pedal if you wanted to make it unnoticable which I rarely mastered on the MO. One thing I noticed was how well the VC tracks. Not that the Murano was bad but when driving at highway speed over longitudinal ruts or asphalt repair, the VC does not give you the slightest hint of wander. This was quite noticeable on the MO and even more so with the winter tires on. Anti reverse hill climb feature really works. Example: stopped on a steep hill with brake applied, let go of brake and the VC just sits there until you step on the gas to continue. Comfort and quietness are far ahead on the Veracruz. Seats are more comfortable on the VC. To date, about the only thing I miss is the no kick down CVT on the Murano when climbing steep hills. The six speed in the VC is otherwise extremely smooth. If you thought the MO had lots of rear leg room, you really need to take a look at the VC. That goes for luggage space also. Don't forget, there are 2 additional seats back there which are entirely out of sight when not in use. When needed, they are actually very comfortable. The fit and finish is much better overall and material quality is surprizing. Little things like really nice material used for the headliner VS monkey fur we see on most. Rear entertainment system is a hit with the kids. They can play their own CD's, watch a movie, plug in their I pod, or even a game console since there is a 110v outlet back there also. They do all this through an amazing set of wireless headphones while we listen to whatever we want up front. Awesome. Really appreciate the auto door lock when shifting into gear and unlocking when going to park. This as I recall, was a pet peeve with most MO owners. I’m really liking the motorised rear lift gate. Not only are the front wipers rain sensing but the rear tailgate wiper is also indepentantly rain sensing. Really nice feature and works very well. The MO is more a sportier ride and the VC is more a luxury ride. For a couple of thousand less than a fully loaded, non nav MO plus an included mega warranty which cost me an additional $1300 on the MO, I’m really happy an impressed with the outstanding overall quality of everything. Never thought I would even consider a Hyundai, boy have things changed. Anything else you want to know about the VC, just holler. ![]() PS: For those of you who said you would not buy a VC because it does not offer Navi, the 2008's have been spotted and this is definatly an option in them for 2008. Alpine based Navi is what they will offer which I believe is the same as Honda.
