Default Hyundai Veracruz

Have you tried one? Pretty amazing. Slightly bigger than the Murano and definately much better materials on the inside. Reeks of quality. The top of the line Limited comes in about $2500 less than a fully loaded SE minus Navi but has many extra features which the Murano does not have. Electric rear hatch, Rear DVD entertainment sytem, seperate rear controls for heat/AC with vents in the ceiling and side pillars, Blue mood lighting everywhere, even the door sill wording "Veracruz" is back lit not to mention every button on the dash and steering column, Rear seat is adjustable by 5 " for and aft, chromatic side mirrors, puddle lights, Chilled beverage compartment, 110v inverter plug in the rear, just to mention a few. This suv is dead quiet at all speeds. Acceleration is on par with the Murano. There is a set of third row seats which are actually quiet comfortable and you do not even know they are there when folded away. Their bumper to bumper standard warranty exceeds the one I had to pay an additional $1300 for on the Murano. The 10 speaker, 6cd,mp3, ipod,Infinity, 605 watt sound system puts the premium Bose system to shame and it comes with XM installed and 3 month subscription. Milage is similar to the Murano. The six speed Aisin auto tranny is the smoothest conventional tranny I have ever tried and rivals that of the CVT. I do not believe everything written in magazines but the front cover of Motor trend is quite the shocker. http://hyundaimotors.com/images/asse...e728_15692.pdf

Only thing negative I can say about it is it does not have the "flair/gorgeous lines" of the Murano when you observe it from the outside where it is rather bland and not very exciting but once inside, it's got the Murano beat.

Gonna give this one a second look for a possibility of my Murano replacement.

I too saw that article and while not shocked given Hyundai's leaps and bounds of late was still a little surprised when they admitted it won out over the RX.

My memories of the '88 Excel are quickly fading and I admit to planning on at the very least shopping Hyundai at our next purchase time.

Yes, I have driven one.

I have also driven the CX9 and the RX350. I would disagree that it is as quick as my Murano - but not bad - and it is a nice ride with lots of "stuff". This is clearly Hyundai's mission: to create top notch product and value. I have an '06 Sonata (the new look one) and it is now 18 months with ZERO defects!!! Too bad the Veracruz doesn't have Nav but otherwise, I liked it best of the 3 (the CX9 is also very nice)

On the other hand, the Murano is a 5+ year old design and execution and still is pretty nice - and comparable. Try that with many other vehicles.

I agree it does not "feel" like it's as fast as the Murano but the Motor Trend recorded 0-60 was 7.7 seconds which is similar to the MO if I'm not mistaken. Regardless, it's darn close. Will not argue about The MO being well ahead of it's time and a class leader but they really need to pull a rabbit out of their hat while keeping the pricing reasonable on the new model to really compete. i for one am very anxious to see what they got coming.

Sadly Gripper my personal list would bump the USA's offerings (as a whole) down to 2nd to last

I think Grip is referring to chronological order, not ranking (right now Korean vehicles probably offer the best value).

Time for a paradigm shift.

First one to develop a flying car that burns hydrogen wins.

Default Detroit missed the opportunity to lead

In engineering and design. Not cost but could have beat out the Germans at least. Plus with leadership in fuel economy lead in volume as well.

It was sickning to listen to the Detroit "We know everything about Everything" and in "Reality nothing about anything" Dumbasses pleasd for no increas in fuel economy standards. Well they got what they wanted thats why they are having to offer 0% financing and can't offer 10 year 100,000 milew bumper to bumper warranties like is close to what the Koreans do.

I recently learned from an Oldsmobile enthusiast that REO sold electric, steam and gas powered units in the 1890's. How far we've fallen behind!!

Just checked the article....I think it was a couple of months ago when I said "watch out for Hyndai, it is delivering not only value but also quality". Some people laughed as it is only "Hyundai".....guess who is going to have last laugh.....

Don,
you are right - arrogance leads to nothing but failure....

Took the jump today. Just too nice of a vehicle and the value factor is definately there. Fully loaded Veracruz with premium leather. Will post an honest non bias Murano comparison after I've got a little saddle time. Delivery is scheduled for next Thursday. Stay tuned

A few more goodies I found out about. Rain sensing wipers, De-icing feature on the front windshield wipers, (not that you Florida folks give a hoot ) The door side panels and the third row seats are premium leather (normally this is imitation on most cars) One of my pet peeves on the MO was the worst designed wiper configuration I have ever seen. The Veracruz is an engineering work of art with those new hingeless wipers we are starting to see, and has no less than 4 washer nozzles per side. Telescoping steering and power pedals but then again the MO had the auto seat forward deal going for it.
