I'm driving on the highway, and some big 18 wheeler cuts me off, and he's hauling gravel. Next thing I know it's raining rocks and debris and it sounds like someone just shot the front of my car with a machine gun. I quickly avoid the truck from there on, but the damage is done. I notice there are several nicks and dings and chips in my paint.
I am hoping to get good information from you detailers or hobby shop workers on how to clean up all those scratches, chips in the paint, and dings to the body without paying a premium price. Any advice? |

I know it is too late, but if you had been able to get the name and/or license plate number you could have filed a claim with the trucking company. It is illegal to transport cargo that is not properly secured. They would be liable for the damage and their insurance company would cover the cost to have your car repaired professionally. -njjoe

Any of you ever touch up paint on your car? If so, what'd you use and how'd it turn out?

Never had to do it on the MO. I used the Invisible Bra and it did it's job to the point that when I took it off at trade in time, the MO looked brand new. It didn't hurt that I protected the rest of it with Zaino.....
Now back to the issue at hand... I did not put a bra on my Miata a few years ago, and got some real bad chips. I used Langka to fix it. I won't say it was perfect. but you really can't see the repaired chip. It requires a lot of patience, but really works. Biggest problem? Metallic paints and the factory paint not being a perfect match. Definitely the best way to go, IMO.

For tiny little nicks, like the chips from stones that are smaller in size than the tip of a pencil, I just use the touch up paint that came with my car.
This way, it prevents rust from setting in, it prevents the chip from getting bigger, and the color is as close of a match as there can be. The only other option really is to have the whole hood/fender/bumper or whatever it is sprayed professionally. What is Langka? |

Used to work for a construction company, and our insurer told callers they would only consider coverage if they stopped the truck right when it happened. Don't know if that was fair or not, but the insurance company said lots of people just try to get new paint jobs by filing an unfounded claim. |
