Hello everyone. I'm brand new to both this forum, and to owning a Murano. I bought a Black 2007 SL yesterday, but the only thing wrong with it, from what I can tell, is that it had apparently been egged while on the lot (might of had something to do with the price I paid
). There is a bit of clear "egg-residue" caked in a few spots on the drivers door, and although it isn't noticeable to most, I see it and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to remove it. My first inclination was to take it to an auto-body shop and get an estimate, but I know that I'll get an estimate that requires a lot of time/money. That might ultimately be the way to go, but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas or suggestions. Thanks in advance!

It depends upon how long the egg residue sat on the paint. I had a white Dodger truck that was egged and because the truck was white, I didn't see the egg residue and it sat on there in the sun. It eventually ate thru the clear coat and there was nothing I could do to polish it out...it ended up cracking thru the paint in several spots....small spots, but nevertheless, I couldn't polish it out.
If yours was only recently egged, you may be able to get it out as explained by another forum member....but you may also be stuck with it eating thru the clear coat....in which case an auto shop is your only option. If it's only a couple spots, I don't think It would cost that much...they wouldn't repaint the whole panel.

Are you sure it is egg residue and not excessive wax or sealant from a less-than-perfect make-over? Did you just recently buy the car? Like in the last few days? If so, I would take it back to the dealer and ask that they work with you on repairing the finish. It's worth the shot. If it is egg residue and has been on the car for more than a few weeks then there may be little you can do because the paint is more than likely crazed. I would try simple laundry detergent. Soak some rags in a diluted laundry detergent solution and hold them against the stain for a few minutes. The enzymes in the detergent are good at breaking down the protein-based stains left by the eggs. Once the egg residue is removed you will be better able to judge the condition of the finish. -njjoe
