Default Tinting my 2006 Murano SL Windows

I'm thinking of tinting my 2006 Murano SL driver and passenger side windows. Our local TNT shop (tops in our State) suggested that I Tint all windows (except the front) despite the dark windows in the back seat area. Any ideas?

Anyone had problems with the back heating element on the backwindow when placing a tint over it?

On my other car, I had the rear window tinted and the rear defroster worked fine.

I don't know if I agree with tinting all the windows unless you're planning to go very dark (i.e. limo) all the way around. I found that 35% tint was about right on my former 2003 Murano. With the Glacier Pearl paint, it really looked great. On my current Murano, since my wife will be driving it often, I opted not to tint the front windows for visibility reasons.

Also bear in mind that some sunglasses with polarized lenses (e.g. Maui Jim) will not work well with some metalic tints and will distort either vision or color.

35% is the max i would go for tinting the front passenger and drivers door windows. it's pretty close to the stock rear tints but still has enough visibility. also the film i have on mine works fine with polarized sunglasses(maui jims). for the rears another 5 to 10 percent wold be more than enough and should cause any problems with the heating element in the rear glass(altough i don't know when you would need to use it in hawaii) but again it should be fine.

Default Tint

I think the Tint % is subject to opinion. I had my Mo front windows tinted as dark as legal which I believe was 30 % here in Florida. This did not even come close to matching the rear which I believe is 15%. I did not like the mismatch. Most tint installers will install 15% all the way around with a cash payment. I believe in Hawaii you may want to go darker than 30% or 35%. My Murano already had the rear hatch window and rear passenger windows tinted so I only had to get the front windows done, is this not the case everywhere else?

Paniolo - here in KS we get a lot of 95-100+ summer sunny days so I did 20% down both sides.
By doing this it darkens up the front sides & back window, but the back is just to hard to back up with the very dark limo 5% tint effect.

Doesn't bother me. I had my 2 fronts tinted with 15%. Matches the rears well.

I certainly wouldn't tint the rears....it's completely uncessesary with the factory tinted glass.

With only 6% of light passsing thru that is darker than limosine tint. How can you see with it? Is driving at night a problem?

Actually see pretty well the only time its hard is backing up at night, back in the day had an F-150 with double 5% all the way around & 30% on front windsheild. That was dark. Back at home in Florida were they didn't care what you put on, besides the police that is.

I also have a new black 2006 Murano SL model. Even though my back windows as well as my tail gate window had a tint type from the factory, I had it tint over with a the top of the line Pinacle tint.
Believe me, your black MO will look real cool!!....

IF a heavily tinted car ever hits me, they better be legal or I will sue their pants off.

Paniolo, the law is 35% on the windows in Hawaii.

Here is a site that shows the various state requirements.

Homer,

"TNT" Tinting is number one Tinting installation in Hawaii. They ensure that the legal 35 percent of tinting is installed on all cars. On their recommendation, I had my black MO tinted all around. According to these folks, the factory windows in the back and the tail gate is not tint film...

I love the look of tinted windows on a car. However, like most anything, you can overdo it to the point where safety is compromised.

I have seen a few cars where the front windshield is so dark you cannot see inside the car in the daytime. While that may look sharp on a show car in broad daylight, I don't like the idea that it is illegally sharing the same road with my family at night.

My brother is a police officer and you can understand how he must feel walking up to the drivers window not knowing if the occupants are pointing a weapon at him. That is an awful feeling.

If they know what they are doing, then they know that it doesn't matter whether there is a "film" tint used or not.

It's the total degree of reflectivity that counts.

Don't know if the cops carry these in Hawaii, but some do here in FL. and many other states.

The Pocket Detective 3.0 Window Tint Meter offers unprecedented accuracy and reliability. This device offers solutions for both Visible Light Transmission (VLT) measurements along with
Visible Light Reflectance (VLR) measurements. VLT is in reference to the percentage of light transmitted through glass and VLR is in reference to the amount of light reflected.
The function of measuring reflectance is important for today's law enforcement and inspection facilities to insure proper visibility for the safety of the driver and public safety officials.
