Lars,

For whatever reason the MO's halogen lights are pretty dismal. I took the big step and swapped them out for OEM HID lights. It was the single best upgrade I did.

You can always upgrade the lamps with Sylvania Silverstars or an equivalent. You'll get shorter life but the output is a bit better.

Here's a long, but information-rich thread on bulb options: Longest Lasting and Brightest HID Alternative...

Adding a bull-bar and driving lights is an option, but it dramatically changes the look of the MO. Personally I look at the MO as a car not an SUV and a bull-bar does not belong on a car.

I have an 04' SL with HID's and the power adjustable headlight lens. How can I adjust the height of the headlights manually?

I found the white plastic screw on the back of them but I can't turn it.. Assuming I'd have to disconnect it from the lens motor or something?

Don't adjust your headlight beams arbitrarily. Have a dealership (or high-end shop) set the aim with an optical beamsetter. Otherwise, follow this guide to aim your headlights yourself:
