Even though I keep a flashlight in the Murano, I thought it might be good to have a permanent engine bay light. My solution was a small 3-led touch light. I loosened the sound insulation on the hood and found a flat spot in the middle of an "X" shaped reinforcement, noted where it sat beneath the insulation and marked the spot. Then I cut a hole around that spot and reinstalled the insulation. Put the sticky tape on the back of the touch light and mounted it in the hole. The light is adequate for emergency situations, and will probably be better in real darkness.

Excellent idea!
An under-hood light should be standard equipment. It will be interesting to see how well the sticky tape stands up to the heat. -njjoe

I agree - was dismayed that such a fine automobile was missing that feature. It will be interesting to see how the whole thing holds up to the heat. If it's a failure I still have the piece of insulation I cut out and it should go back in with some duct tape on the back just fine.

Holding up fine to the heat, and it does get quite hot. I found a can of "Ford Gray" engine paint in the basement, compliments of the former homeowner who was restoring a vintage Mustang and used it to paint the light housing. It is a very close match to the gray color of the hood's inside, and so the light looks like it's really part of the vehicle now.
