Default Question about Murano LED Daytime Running Lights Accessory

Question about Murano LED Daytime Running Lights Nissan Accessory installed on 2011 MO. This is about the Nissan accessory (advertised on the Nissan website), not an after-market LED version. This would be installed at a Nissan dealer, not DIY.
1. Is there any switch installed INSIDE the vehicle to turn on/off the lights?
2. Do the LED DRL stay ON when the headlight switch is set to AUTO and the headlights are OFF because it is daylight outside?
3. Is there any way to wire/configure/program the DRL so that they remain ON at the same time the headlights are ON at nightime?

I would appreciate an answer from someone who has already installed this accessory.

Daytime Running Lights, part # B66M0-Z5100 ($500+ for kit alone) is an "Accessory" that can be installed by someone other then a Nissan technician.

Answers to questions:

1. No dedicated switch for the DRL's
2. Yes
3. There is always a way 8-) In regard to this accessory it would mean additional custom wiring/switch, etc.

Here are install instructions (2010-2012 Murano) for Daytime Running Lights, part # B66M0-Z5100: http://www.courtesyparts.com/images/...66M0-Z5100.pdf

These LEDs are large and quite bright ... I wonder if they'd be a distraction or an annoyance to other drivers at night.

If I disconnect the wire to the side marker, do you think it'll stay on with the headlights?

I bought the set for my early '09 when they were only offered in Japan as a factory accessory. The kit came supplied with an interior ON-OFF switch (which I decided not to install) and I currently have mine wired to be on all the time. All I did was find an open Ignition/Hot terminal to connect the power wire. Wiring photos are in my forum Photo Gallery.

Hope this helps and take care!

Jim

On behalf of other drivers, if you find a way to leave them on while the headlights are on, PLEASE get out of the car, stand in front at night and see if they are obnoxious to oncoming drivers. If so, PLEASE disconnect them so they're not on at night.

This question is for BillArf or whomever knows:

It is understood that the Murano LED Daytime Running Lights (Nissan factory accessory) are ON during the daytime and OFF during the nighttime. Furthermore, it is understood that there is no specific switch inside the vehicle to enable the driver to turn on/off the DRLs; they turn on/off based on some other determination.

My question is regarding what actually causes the DRLs to turn on and off:

Do the DRLs turn on/off
1) based on the position of headlight switch (left stalk on the steering wheel), or
2) based on the optical sensor that determines whether it is daylight outside (sensor that turn on/off headlights when in AUTO), or
3) a relay that tracks when the headlights are actually on or off, or
4) some other determiner?

Thank you. Dale

Here's a copy of the installation instructions along with the schematic.

I think #3 but I have nothing to verify this by. Many cars these days with DRL's are driven by #3.

To HVT: Yes, I have seen those installation instructions before. To be honest, I am not able to understand the wiring (eg: how the harness, control box, etc. works and connects) in order to be able to get the answer to my question. I think the answer requires someone who is well qualified/knowledgeable about the Murano electronics (which appear to be quite complex). Is there someone who could help with this? Thank you. Dale
