I can tell you prices have went up tremendously. I called a dealer near my home and was quoted $404 for the visor and another $47 to install it...pushing $500 for a sun visor!!!
The fact that the price for this item has gone up so much tells me this problem is widespread! The cheapest I can find it online is $295 plus $20 in shipping. I saw where a few people filed complaints at safercar.gov. Are there any updates to this problem? How can Nissan get away with this?

I have also had a problem with the 2003 Murano driver's side visor drooping and have had the problem to some degree from day one. Originally the dealer replaced the clip, as noted in earlier posts, which did not correct the problem. Now at 6 years old and 82k miles it is drooping to the point of distraction. I will call the Nissan 800 number listed above and let them know of my (our) frustration. Does anyone know if there is a way to report something like this to the Federal Government Auto Safety dept. I would think that it might be considered a safety issue since my visor is obstructing the driver's windshield view. Thanks to all for all the info.!

I see the last posts were a while ago on this.
My 2004 Murano's driver's-side visor positioning started going bad a while ago and has gotten steadily worse. It is pretty obvious something broke inside the visor where the positioning bar rotates. This started after the 3/36 warranty. They want almost $400 to replace it. I posted this problem on cartalk.com and have gotten a lot of advice from other posters - mostly to fix it myself. Since the broken part has to be inside the visor itself, there really isn't any way I can see to do this without cutting the felt. They say the visor is wired into the headliner so removing the visor to work on it would be a big deal even if I could find a used one at a junk yard. Personally, I think this is a big safety issue. I now have to hold the damn thing in place with one hand while driving a lot of the time. Now that spring has arrived here - that's becoming a significant issue. If not that many Muranos are affected, Nissan ought to do the right thing and issue a service bulletin to repair this. I'd go for a repair over a new visor if it could be done without causing an unsightly result. My car doesn't even have 23K on it and is NOT a cheap car!! |

holly crap! I thought I was the only one! My Mo is 2005 AWD SL, and I got it last Januarry with 79Km on it, and now it has 83Km and my driver side visor started falling on me when I drive. I thought it was because I attached a garage opener on it, but I figured it just made it worse.
I looked around and I couldn't find a visor for less than 330$. This is gonna be messy! I'll live with that till I don't know how long! Thanks |

WorldPartsExpress.com sells the sunvisor for $234. That's still a lot of dough for a sunvisor, but it is better than $303. Have you tried salvage yards?

There is no way I will ever spend $200+ (let alone $400) on a sunvisor. When time comes, I plan to use a piece of velcro to stick it to the headliner, and if that is not good enough I will tear it apart and fix it, using sunvisor parts from one in a junkyard!.

I have found a few complaints at the following gov. site.
I have tried velcro which worked for awhile but now the glue won't stick to the roof material. File a complaint here: (VIN # needed) http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm Search for the complaint - Visibility section http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaints/index.cfm |

Tried to get help from Nissan North America. They had me take it to a dealer to have it "inspected". Service manager said "what do they want me to do?" After looking at it said "it's broken". Nissan called me back and said tough luck.
For reference Nissan's number is 1-800-647-7261 |

Has anyone replaced their sun visors? I think you have to pry the cover off with a screwdriver to get to the screws, but when I tried that, it seemed like I was about to break it, so I stopped.
I have an '04 MO with 81,000 miles on it. About a year ago, my driver side sun visor started falling down in my face while driving. I took it to the dealer while it was still under warranty and they said it was not covered under the warranty and would cost about $300 to replace. I insisted it was a safety issue, but they wouldn't even meet me half way on the cost. Recently the passenger side sun visor started swinging down if I go over a slight bump, but it will still stay up if you put it up. The driver's side won't stay up at all without velcro, and it won't stay all the way forward either. It just hangs right in the way of my line of sight. I found that it is a common occurance in '03 and '04's and I found a petition online that thousands of people have signed to try to get Nissan to issue a recall on the defective sun visors. Anyway, I was just wondering wondering if anyone has changed theirs out and could help me out with some know-how because I don't want to spend $600 to have the dealer replace them.

First, that SHOULD have been covered under waranty (as I had an issue) second if it is the issue I'm thinking of there is a SB.... you replace the clips NOT the entire visor.
Thats all I have but hopefully it will point you in the right direction.

I thought the clips issue and the floppy sun visors were two different issues. With the clips, the sun visors don't stay locked to the clips (i.e., keep popping out). My passenger side visor had this issue and I had the clip replaced. Still doing it, but I figured it wasn't worth the hassle to replace again now that I am way out of warranty! The floppy sun visors had an issue internal to the visors themselves necessitating full replacement.
I believe this thread discussed it further here. |

Add me to the growing list of "droopy" Murano sun visors. I have had the same answers as previous posts... $400 from the dealer... $334 if I buy the part (#96401 sun visor assembly) )from Nissan. I googled "auto salvage" and found a place to buy one for $185... If anyone decides to self install... it is simple. Pry off the plastic cover, unscrew the 2 screws under the cover... there is a connector for the electrical wires that can be disconnected.... and replace the visor. I'm not sure I want to put $185.00 into a new visor for my '06, so I may do the velcro route... use a small amount of super glue or Gorilla glue to hold a 1/2"x1/2" piece of velcro in place.... to much velcro and the pulling force of the velcro will overcome the holding power of the glue to the cloth. Good luck to you and thumbs down to Nissan for not standing behind an obviously inferior and malfunctioning part.
