Engine oil leak

I searched the knowledge base the other day looking for someone who had experienced an oil leak on the passenger side of the engine. The disussions I found dealt mainly with the crush washer, oil filter gasket and oil cooler lines. However, none of those were the answer to my problem.

I kept looking for the source of the leak and finally determined it was the engine oil seal. I had it replaced at the dealer, about $220 and an hours time.

The oil was running off the engine and landing on the frame just behind where the filter is located - it initially looked as though it may have been coming out of the filter or residual oil from the last oil change. But that was not the case.

Just FYI if anyone is finding oil on the ground in that area - check the oil seal!!

I too had the same kind of leak. I thought for sure it was comming from the oil pan drain bolt. after replacing the crush washer and getting a new bolt from nissan i thought i had the problem solved.

turned out it was the oil cooler seal. when that was replaced...no more drips

tnelson;

Did it state on your service invoice the part name and # that was considered the "Oil Seal"?

It sure does sound like the O-ring that sometimes can cause a leak on the Oil Cooler where the Oil Filter mounts onto.

Thanks.
