I think he means if the warranty extension covers a CVT that already has been replaced once due to an accident. As you know, most replacement parts are warranteed for 12k miles only, but only if not eligible for factory warranty. I think it will be covered.

This is amazing.... its an early birthday gift!

I have a dumb question.... are you sure this is through Nissan and not a marketing ploy? Nissanassist.com....... The "letter" is signed, "Vice President Total Customer Satisfaction"..... I would expect it to say something like "Nissan Vice President Total Customer Satisfaction"

Am I just paranoid? Has anyone called NNA?

I for one confirmed with not only Nissan Canada but 2 dealers nearby my house and they all said the same....YES WE CAN! Now if only they can remove some of the Rogue in the 2nd Generation and throw in maybe a diesel, man I will for sure replace my current MO (which I plan to keep for another 3 years or so) with a facelift 2nd generation MO.

Homer,

The question is: Spend money (payment/lump sum) or not. The MO is paid for and costs you no additional money at the moment. The largest expense (CVT) is now covered by Nissan. I would continue to drive the MO until such time that you approach the 120K mile CVT limit, you approach 10 years (both limits of the extended coverage), or you find a VW Tiguan or MB GLK 1 - 2 years old to avoid the 1st year depreciative hit.

That's ALL? Mine is only 5 years old (last month) and has barely 70K miles on it. It still looks, drives and smells almost new.

I'm hoping it lasts as long as my current (95 SE with 209K miles) Maxima, that I bought new in 9/94.

Are all Muranos covered?

I mean, if someone were to buy a used Murano, does the new CVT warranty apply?

I was just car shopping, and if you buy a 1 year old Hyundai (for example) the 100,000 mile power train warranty is only valid for the first owner.

It makes a compelling sales point when selling our MO's, if we can tout the CVT guarantee...

I will hit 95,000 miles this week. Although the motor runs strong, with the CVT stories dancing in my head, the MO was certainly on the chopping block. I will absolutely keep her through the winter now.

Yes, according to what I read, the CVT warranty is transferable.

One thing to keep in mind.
This is not an extension of the powertrain warranty.
This is an extension of the CVT warranty.
Those folks who have had transfer case problems will probably still have transfer case problems....

Paranoid? No, I don't think so. I think the extended coverage was just so unexpected and is so hard to believe that we are looking for an excuse to not believe it.

Although Nissan has not issued a press release nor highlighted the change on the MO's website, the new CVT coverage is mentioned in the warranty section of the Nissan-USA website.

Maybe the powers that be at Nissan corporate are concerned the extended coverage may be viewed by some as an admission that they failed to implement an owner-friendly repair program. That's my bet.

I think they don't want the general public to find out because they are afraid those who spent money on the CVT and then sold the car and no longer have contact with Nissan also realize they can get their money back. Think about it, how would I find out about what Honda is offering if I am not a Honda customer?

I called my Nissan dealer here in Louisville, KY and they said it IS transferrable.

No matter how many owners have had the car, your CVT will be covered.

I cancelled my extended Powertrain warranty the other day as I no longer have to fear the CVT failure.

MAKE SURE YOU GET THE CVT FLUID CHANGED AS NEEDED!!!

The guy I spoke with at Nissan said that coporate is going to be very strict on CVT repairs and will require documentation that the CVT has been properly maintained. Not sure if he was just trying to sell me the CVT service for $200, but i guess we are all forewarned.

I'm curious what the guy you spoke with considers `proper maintenance.'

The FSM calls only for a CVT inspection, meaning a level and visual check, every 15K miles after 60K. That $200 CVT service (unless you have a leak or visual problem - specifically a viscous varnished state, milky white or cloudy color, or large amount of metal powder mixed in with the fluid) is a scam. I say find another dealer if yours is trying to sell you a $200 CVT service if you have neither level nor visual problems with your CVT fluid.

This is all for normal (schedule 2) driving, of course. If you are subjecting your Mo to severe driving conditions, schedule 1 calls for an inspection with the Consult -II at 60K.

Since I drive my Mo strictly as a car (and not a truck), I'm confident that my periodic visual inspections, which I have no way to document, will be just fine.

What the guy didn't know was I had my CVT serviced at 67,000 miles. They hooked it up to the Consult II that you mentioned. Said I was close to the mark, but had some room to go further on the fluid. So, since I was there I had them change it anyways - call it $200 cheap insurance I guess. No since in scheduling another trip to the dealer in 3-6 months.

I have made it a rule of thumb to change (not flush) the CVT every 60k, change my synthetic oil at 4.5-5k, and differential oil every 30k.

I see where you're coming from as Nissan is subjective to how they view "proper maintenance" as items in the owner's book say recommended, not required. Symantics, right?

The FSM (I go by that, and not the owners manual) is really not subjective. There is no `required' vs `recommended' in the maintenance section. It's either inspect or replace - no symantics there.

Unless you consider the term `inspect' - especially in the case of CVT fluid - to be subjective. What degree of `varnishing, milkiness, or presence of metal powder' should one allow before the fluid should be changed? (I say NONE!).

But there is absolutely no mention in the normal (non-severe) driving maintenance schedule of the need for a Consult-II test. That's only required (not recommended) every 60K miles when following schedule 1 (severe driving conditions). Common sense would say that at some point - maybe 120K or 180K - the Consult-II test might be a good idea, even under normal driving conditions. But, again per the FSM, this test is neither recommended nor required (presumably ever) if you are not subjecting your Mo to harsh (severe) conditions.
