abs sensor

hey guys, awhile ago i had my front drivers side hub replaced and after that i noticed that my ABS and AWD lights came on... so i checked it out on here and most of the responses was due to the abs sensor breaking off from rust... and i heard that my murano isn't using abs or awd now that the abs sensor is off... so i am thinking of ordering a new sensor and before i order one i just would like some of you experienced mo drivers approval(opinions) if this is correct and if the sensor i am ordering is correct as well... or if you recommend a different(cheaper) one, thanks for all your help!!!

If you are getting the ABS light and the AWD light coming on; then that sounds like the problem.

I figure the person who replaced your hub either did not remove the ABS sensor and damaged it or it was seized in there and would have to be broken to replace the hub.

They should have told you this when they did the job.

The ABS sensor is colour coded; they have a blue and grey connector. You can check in the engine compartment up against the fender well where the wiring comes in through a gromet.

$116.62 is a great price! Up here, the dealer price is $225.00 CDN!

This is not intended to be an insult, but it sounds like the OP is not very familiar with working on cars. Otherwise he would know that any time that light is on, there is no ABS functioning. No big deal - everyone learns this stuff as the opportunity occurs.

If my guess is right, I strongly suggest that he take the vehicle to a good shop (dealer or independent) and have them install the sensor. It's not usually that hard a job, but it needs to be done right or no ABS.

Brake function is serious, and this is not a fix in which you want to leave any potential for problems.

Not only is there no ABS when the light is on; there is also NO AWD when the sensor is down.

This sensor is also used within the AWD circuit to sense slipage between all the wheels.

hey guys just got my abs sensor in... DOES NOT look like it should be worth more than 20bucs hahaha... anyways i was just wondering if anyone could guess how difficult and how long should it take to uninstall the old one and install the new one, i just wanted to know... just so my mechanic doesn't rip me off, thanks guys!!

That depends on how stuck it is or not.

If it's not seized in there and the 1 mounting bolt comes off without snapping; it's a 30 min. job with a hoist at the most.
Take the wheel off; undo the 1 10mm bolt; remove sensor-unclip it from the strut/holder; pull out the fender gromet and unclip the connector. Re-install; put the wheel back on and done.

However; if the sensor is seized within the steering knuckle. You must first drill out the old sensor with a 3/8" dia. drill making sure none of the bits and pieces fall into the back-side where the sensor pick-up that is housed in the wheel bearing.

Also; if the 10mm bolt is seized and snaps. You must then drill out the old bolt and run a tap through to clean up the threads.

So; there are the three senerios that may depend on how much of a job it was.

You can ask your mechanic to see the old sensor. Depending on if he brings it out in one piece or in a dust pan you will know what he may charge you.

hey guys... so i got my new abs sensor in and went to take off the bolt hold in the sensor and the head of the bolt snaped off... does any one know what size the bolt is.... ?? and does anyone think that the plastic piece will brake off as well ??

The bolt is a 10mm head with an M6 threading. You will have to drill out the remaining thread. Start with a 1/8" drill bit and drill close to center as possible and drill into the remaining bolt. Once you drill through; repeat with a 3/16"(or 7/32") bit and do the same.
Now run an M6 tap through to clean up the threads. Put a piece of tape behind the bolt hole so the metal bits won't end up in the sensor "pick-up" in the wheel hub.

I am almost confident that the plastic ABS sensor will break off too. Mine did. Use a 3/8" drill bit and drill through the broken sensor if needed. Again; make sure that pieces of debris doesn't end up in the wheel hub.

Hey guys new here.
Just got a 04/ MO SL FWD, 76K Miles.

Front wheel bearing was no good and stealership priced the job @ $600.
I got the part and installed it but I broked the fricking thing and then the ABS light was on. It is called Anti skid control I think.
I looked and looked and no luck in local junk yards.
I got it shipped for $122 from https://www.1stnissanparts.com/oe_parts_cat.html.

The install took me about 12 minutes, removed the tire and it was easy.

I have the ABS and AWD light on and I can't lock my awd and it feels like awd isint working at all. Everything I am reading is telling me to replace the ABS sensor, the question is how do I know which one to replace or should I just do both? I have an odbII code reader but I am no getting any codes accept for a faulty gas cap code. Is there a different reader to read AWD/TCU codes?

This may be early to ask as this is only the 4th post i have read about abs/awd light buuuuttt...
How many ABS sensors are there, is there one for each wheel. I am also having the abs and awd lights coming on and curious how to know what abs sensor is out, if there is more than one.
