Progress on the driver seat blues. The small bracket I fashioned to hold the broken driver seat bracket just died so I followed the general advice and got it welded. Found a local welder in the yellow pages and happily welded the bracket in no time at all for $50. Better than $1000. Interesting to see how long the stresses on that bracket will last. Seems fine for now, touch wood.
How to remove the drivers seat. It is not hard at all. You just need a socket set and a small flat head screw driver. See the following: For those who are concerned with the number of bolts required to remove the drivers seat in the Murano, there are only four (4). You will also need to unplug the electrical plugs of which there are three (3). Motor the seat to the extreme rear and take off the plastic covers on the ends of the floor rails at the front of the seat. Grab a friends socket set and remove the bolts. Once off, motor the seat to the extreme front to access the bolts at the rear of the seat rails. Once off, gently raise the front of the seat and unplug the electrical plugs. You'll need a small flat head screw driver to release the latch on each plug. Now you are ready to take the seat out. BTW. If you desparately need to drive the car you can mount the passenger seat onto the drivers side. It fits perfectly onto the mounts on the drivers side. Only problem is that you won't have a seatbelt mount. Worked for me. Again only four 4 bolts and some electrical plugs to remove. One problem for me though. The airbag warning light now flashes on the dash. Note, I didn't have the car ON whilst removing and installing the seats. I think I'll have to check the electrical plugs again. Hope this is helpful. Thanks everyone for all the great information. I got my wife's car seat fixed yesterday for $25. I thought it might be helpful to share this step-by-step guide to getting the frame off the seat:
I brought the frame to a local muffler shop and they fixed it in 5 minutes. Took me about 3 hours to get the frame off, take it to the shop, and put it all back together again. Airbag light did not come on. Thanks! |

I just had the same problem with my 2005 Murano @ 75500 miles. I did not fix it myself but took it into the dealer I use. They fixed it for $380. P/N 87473-CA01A for $192.29 (Drivers seat lifter assy) and labor. Service Rep said that Nissan now makes this part instead entire frame.

Although it is at least a year too late, it is good to see Nissan step up to the plate and offer a discounted program that directly addresses the poorly designed driver's seat. Better late then never. ![]() -njjoe
