Grinding sound in engine on 2005 Nissan Murano

I bought an 05 murano a little over a year ago. It has about 79k miles on it. I love this car and have never had any problems with it until a couple of months ago. It was making a squealing sound while driving. Only seemed to do it once or twice while the car was still warming up so we didnt think much of it (though it was just the fan belt). The other day though it was making the noise a lot more than normal, and then I started hearing a grinding sound, like metal on metal coming from the engine. I limped it to a les schwab to see if it was just something stuck in the tires or something like that but they told me they thought it was something wrong internally and i needed to have it towed. I had it towed to the nissan dealership, but they have yet to look at it. Any ideas as to what might be going on?? I have it serviced regularly, except i have lacked on getting the 60k mile service done. something i have been meaning to do, but the nearest dealership is 40 miles away. Please help, I dont want to get screwed over.

I have this same issue on my 06 MO SL AWD.

I took it to the Nissan dealership 4 times and the first time they did hubs, then bearings and then the most recent time I took it, I did a test drive with 3 techs. The first tech said differential, the second one said transmission, then the 3rd one said tires. After replacing all 4 tires I still hear it.

I have yet to take it back, but a regular mechanic told me it was a transmission problem, he's had customers with the same issue.

I plan on taking it back in tomorrow, hopefully I get a solid solution.

This makes me a lil nervous...i get a grinding noise when i start the car in the morning. The engine revs up and towards the end when it gets steady i hear the grinding metal on metal for a couple of seconds. And then its gone. It only seems to appear when i start the car after leaving it in the cold for a while.Never occurs if i turn off and start it again.

knock sensor problems

is it true that the knock sensor is the reason why muranos have that metal sound in the engine?
