Good man!
I observed an oil leak in the kid's car and thought it was coming from a loose oil filter. So at the next oil change, I tightened everything up and pressure sprayed the entire engine compartment top to bottom. The a few days later I looked at it again. Low and behold, the oil was seeping out from around the oil pan seal itself. During travel, the oil must have been getting flipped up and covering the on and around the oil filter. It was interesting to find the root cause of the oil leak. Not where I thought it was.

********************************************** 1. NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY/POWER TRAIN WARRANTY/WHAT IS COVERED/Transmission and Trans-axle (Nissan CA warranty booklet on the website): Case and all internal parts, torque converter and converter housing, automatic transmission control module, transfer case and all internal parts, seals and gaskets, clutch cover and housing and electronic transmission controls. 2. Nissan CVT Customer Satisfaction Program (under FAQ, Nissan CVT Warranty Extension Q2. What are the new terms of the extended warranty? The existing power train warranty coverage of 5 years/60,000 miles will be extended at no cost, for CVT repairs, replacements or related towing, to 10 years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first. ********************************************** Now, note here that the power train warranty for CVT is being extended which contradicts to what they said to you..that the CVT warranty was extended rather than power train. I pulled the second piece from the US site, but I am pretty sure that Canadian warranty should mirror that of US'. In your place I would do some digging around to get your hands on the Canadian warranty text and present it to them. Do not give up just yet. |

Well, I just looked into the letter I got from Nissan on this subject and this is what it says:
'The existing power train warranty coverage of 5 years/100,000 kilometers will be extended at no cost to you, for CVT repairs .......to 10 years/200,000 kilometers..' Good luck! |

I have a 2004 SE with 117000Kms and I have the exact same leak from the same spot. Ive been keeping an eye on it.
I took it to nissan and explained where the leak was coming from and without even looking at it the nissan tech said I didnt want to even know how much its going to cost.. I said that it may be covered by the CVT warranty and he said if its between the TC and CVT it is not covered and would be over $2500 to repair, he said only internal CVT parts are covered, seals and TC are not. I dont understand how he could know its not covered without even looking at the underside of my MO, but I just walked out kinda pissed.. I would love to see how this turns out as I would love to get this repair covered. Thanks |

Well after a long wait (July 2011) till today, I finally got my wish ==> My Mo's transmission was replaced brand new and under warranty from Nissan Canada.
My Mo went on a series of power lose, engine lurching, throttle surges, P0746 MIL code, no throttle responses, several scary stalling episodes on the super highways and main streets stop lights, then transmission decides to quit. Brought it my neighborhood Nissan dealership and presto..... "Transmission needs to be replaced under warranty" Boy was I ever relieved to hear that !!! Finally my fears have been resolved otherwise I would have been $7G's in the hole. To top it up, saved me the $400 dollars to spend on the Transmission fluid flush that I would be needing soon anyway. By the way, I just got it today it still too early to say if it would be great or it needs to go back. I also want to see if the sweating from the Output seal had been fixed along the way. Been a very good experience with this dealership. My only complain was I did not get a rental car for the three days it was in the shop. Woooohooooo !!!!! |

Like most manufacturers, you know they gotta have their weasel clauses in there somewhere. Not much of a warranty from my point of view.

Update:
After using it for more than a month, the new transmission seems to be holding out. There are no leaks or seepage. Even the TC is behaving properly. So I am very happy ! I will bring some doughnuts and coffee to that Brampton North Nissan dealership as it saved me a lot of money.... |
