I hope someone can help on this. A few days ago I noticed a squeal or a thumping noise when I turned either direction. Today as I was driving, a heard the noise again, then my Murano sounded like I ran over a stick that was caught under the vehicle. At first I thought it was the muffler or a pipe dragging on the ground under the car. I was able to pull into my driveway but as I did, the Murano wanted to stall and I could barely steer it into the driveway, very hard to turn the wheel....any suggestions? I looked under the passenger side front tire and I can see that one of the belts is still on but I cant find the other one.....
thanks for any help I can get |

The second belt is tucked under the engine and drives the power steering pump. Maybe the belt got loose and is squealing. Then due to the squealing it shredded and is making a repetitive thumping noise.

would I be able to see the belts from the top or do I have to take the wheel off? I looked down at the belts from the top and it looks like both are still attached. I'm afraid to turn the car back on incase it is a bigger problem. also I got under the car but could only see one belt without taking the wheel and cover off, do I take the cover off to see that one?

So you are having steering issues and stalling/hesitation accompanied by loud sound? Do you drive an AWD? Year of your MO? Do you see any red fluid on the ground where you park your car at night? Check your power steering reservoir fluid level. If you have AWD, have you ever checked your undercarriage for any signs of leak in the drivetrain? Its possible you have a damage TC--transfer case, or rear differential. Is the sound coming from the front or rear of the vehicle? Do you see any warning lights on the dash?
