Default Transmission making noise 2006 murano

Purchased a 2006 Murano with 55100 miles, about 5 months ago. The other day I started to hear a ticking sound in the front engine area. The noise got louder, so I placed my car on a lift and ran it. I could hear the loud clucking sound cummings from trans case. I went to dealership they told me Nissan extended the transmission warranty my vehicle until 2016 or 120,000 miles. They replaced the transmission today, and I will be picking up my Murano tomorrow. They advised Nissan had a problem with the manufacturing of these transmissions . Some of the parts inside, were faulty and had to be reconstructed. So they told me that this new tranny should solve the issue and it,s also covered under warranty until 2016 or 120,0000 miles. Well will see tomorrow if repairs were completed.

Just curious - where in MA are you, and what dealer did you use?

Picked car today, drove off and Rpm continued to reb high at 3-4 thousand rpm. It felt like it was not shifting and engine loud like being put under pressure. The rpms stay high between these numbers. Is that normal. I figure the rpms should go down as you increase speed. Also engine light was on. So I brought it back and they kept it again. Is this normal that the rpms reb high at 40 mph. Or even as you increase speed. They told me I should not feel the transmission changing, but I not think the engine should rep that high. Any advise.

The engine will rev as you accelerate. If you're in Drive gear and you are feathering the throttle (NOT accelerating at all), at 40 MPH you should be closer to 1200-1500 RPM. Sounds to me like the gear selector was in Second...or the tranny thought it was.

Yes Pilgrim, your right, it sounds like the transmission is not shifting and stuck in second. I also moved the shift lever to the right and no difference in transmission shift or sound. Maybe this engine light has somthing to do with it acting this way. It is a new transmission, i figured just unbolt, bolt and that it. Maybe somthing needs to be ajusted or programed? .

Sounds like shifter acting up. More than likely a connector had come loose so should not be an issue.

I hope your right and it's only a loose connector. Im getting worried about all these issues, not sure if I should stay with this car or trade it in.. I like it, but never had anything like this happen. Well, will see what they say tomorrow.

I wouldn't panic about this. When you say it doesn't change anything when you move the shift to the right, I feel pretty sure that the transmission is just in Second, and the dealer should be able to find the problem. Most likely a bad cable from the shift lever to the transmission - although I haven't looked at drawings to see how it connects, I assume it is a cable. Cables can slip or stretch, and connectors can fail.

What dealer, Car121? Because I know the service people at Sullivan Brothers in Kingston, MA (usually not a good thing, but it's from owning a number of Nissans over 20+ years and buying most of them there). Other than the first 3, relatively minor recalls on my 04 SE Mo, the only time that car has been back to the dealer for anything other than the first 5 oil changes (included in the purchase price), was for an antifreeze change and the 2, accessory belts.

I checked RPM on my 07 last night...at 40 MPH I was just a bit over 1500 rpm in Drive on a level road, feathering the throttle.

Hey guys... I finally got a response late in the afternoon. I was told that a wire near the trans shifter came unplugged and was causing this issue. So Zebelkhan and Pilgrim maybe your right, on the loose plug. I will be picking up the vehicle later this afternoon and will post an update. I'm keeping my fingers crossed .. Oh the Dealer is Country Nissan Ma.

Thanks. I was just wondering if you were near me (obviously you are way on the other side of the state from me), and by chance were using the dealer I use. I'd love to stop in some time and tell the service manager - whom I have had several very good experiences with over the years - that I'm following on this forum a discussion about their service! So far, I haven't met anyone else here using Sullivan Brothers (in Kingston, MA).

Well, picked up car and it's running smooth again. However after driving about half mile, the Service Engine Soon light went on and won't go off. I knew it was to good to be true!. I did notice I was very low on fuel, so I gassed up and made sure that gas cap was tight. Started car again and as I drove off , light back on. Drove about 3-4 miles to see if it would turn off, and nothing. So I'll be calling dealer back in am. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this?
