Default Fog Light Fuse Keeps Blowing

Hey,

I have a 2003 Murano and I installed HID fog lights on it a while ago (03 Murano New HID Fogs!) and they just recently started to not work. I opened the hood today and found that the fuse for the fog lights was blown. I replaced the fuse and it blew again. What can cause this fuse to keep blowing?

Thanks

You have HID fogs, correct? Isolate the ballasts. Try disconnecting one ballast at a time and see if the fuse still blows. If not, then you know which side needs your attention.

Any ballast can go bad - njjoe's advice sounds good. Also, an exposed wire or connection that's shorting can cause the fuse to blow. I'd follow njjoe's advice and also check the wiring carefully.

I will try this over the weekend and report back, thanks for your input. Is it normal for a ballast to go bad after a year?

A ballast could chitt the bed on day one or anytime. While you are poking around check your connections, look for bare wires, etc.. Could just be an issue with connector/wiring (a short) versus a bad ballast. Wiring issues do tend to raise their heads after a few months. I do like the idea of isolating one side from the other while troubleshooting..

I am not implying the ballast is bad, I am just suggesting a relatively easy method of isolating parts of the circuits to make the troubleshooting that much easier.

Once you isolate the side or section that is causing the fault I would focus in on any soldered or crimped connection and any place where the wire/cable runs through a grommet-less opening.

Or swap ballasts from one side to the other. One may be bad.
