Hi everyone, hope you all are doing better than I am.
I have a 2004 murano se. She was driving fine till last week. I drove her up to Tahoe and noticed she was lacking power. And when i would full throattle it the SES light would blink. So i babyed it home. The sound of the intake was a bit louder as well. I changed out the spark plugs. And now I noticed the car won't rev past 5000rpm when in gear. It feels like it hit a rev limiter. Even when I manually shift the gears. It revs freely up to redline when it's in neutral and park. I did have some fuel injector cleaner put in before this happend as well as a o2 sensor code. No codes as of right now tho. Any one else have any experience with this? I have 118,000 miles. I'm hoping it's my cvt so I can have it changed out before the warranty runs out. Thanks guys! |

What warranty do you have? The nissan powertrain CVT warranty is up for you; i.e. 118K miles. Hopefully you have some aftermarket warranty that covers the tranny.
Might not be it...but I'm thinking the knock sensor is out. If you don't have any obvious pinging and loss of power, still seems to be shifting okay but feels limited, that might be it. If the knock sensor goes, then the ECU could be detecting a false ping and retard your timing to compensate. This results in loss of power and the sluggishness you're feeling. However...big point here...the code the knock sensor throws can be quickly reset by the ECU so the SES light won't stay on or may not even turn it on. I suggest going to PepBoys, AutoZone, or whatever you have local and get the codes read regardless if your SES light is on or not. Some codes won't throw an SES light believe it or not! Experienced this very same thing with my 2002 Nissan Frontier SE! After I swapped out its knock sensor, all power, torque, and MPG's came back right away! Good luck!

Rev limiting and loss of power is consistant with MAF sensor issues.
MAF sensors are famous for falling out of spec w/o throwing any DTC's. Your dealer can check the A/F ratio cycling to see if this is the problem without throwing parts at it. Never replace with an aftermarket MAF if yours has failed. They never seem to work right on nissans. You will be chasing you tail. |

It is transmission problem.
This was exactly how it happened with mine although I didn't have any O2 Sensor codes. Just had the fuel additive added as my MO was acting sluggish at first. Next thing you know, it would stall and lose of power. Acceleration surges starts to happen. The engine lurches when you step on the throttle. At stop lights, it would move really slow even if you step on the gas right to the floor, etc..... precursor to an emminent transmission failure... |
