06 murano awd; In drive or reverse at idle or high speed, there is a clunkin, clanking sound and a feels as though you are applying the brakes just before the noise. It also smell of burnt oil around both rear tires. Any suggestions or ideas ??? Frawg All of the noises and jerking feel are coming from the rear tires..

I can only think of two possibilities. 1- Caliper pins that may be frozen, hence not letting calipers adjust and smell is really not of oil, but over heated brake pads. 2- Torn rear axle boots that cause the grease to be sprayed on the exhaust and burn. Both scenarios can cause noise as well as vibration.

I like both those suggestions. Also check the springs and rear suspension to make sure there's nothing broken and touching a tire intermittently.
