Default Engine Ping

Hi All,

I'm new on the site and would really appreciate your advice on the under mentioned.

1. When I accelerate in a normal manner and the car shifts to high gear at low speed the motor pings. This only happens when the engine is at operating temperature. How is this possible with a VVT motor?

2. Can I take out all the CAT Converters and replace it with a straight pipe?

Are you using 87 octane fuel?

Need more info. Depending on the year Murano, you may need to be using premium fuel.

I live in Namibia, Africa. Northwest of South Africa, underneath Angola. Why?

The lowest octane fuel we get here is 93. Are you saying that the octane is too high?

High octane will not cause ping, and my 07 will run fine on 87 octane. Cars simply do not use octane higher than that which they require.

However, a problem with the engine (such as deposits on the pistons) coupled with a faulty knock sensor can allow ping to occur. I'm wondering if something is causing the engine to ping and a faulty knock sensor is making the engine unable to adjust its timing to compensate.
