Okay with all the problems that have been posted in this forum, I knew I was bound to get one of my own - only not this fast (approx. 10k miles on vehicle).
Today, my door ajar light came on, followed by the orange screen displaying that the right-rear door was open. So, I stopped my vehicle and opened and shut the door. The light was still on. I tried it several times with no luck. I let the car sit for a couple of hours. Later, I started the car. And guess what.....the light had magically disappeared. I'm thinking that it could have been the result of moisture from all of the rain we have been getting in the Northeast. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I believe the switch is part of the locking mechanism. If the door shuts tight then how would the light come on?
I only performed one minor mod with the install of an OEM DIM/HOMELINK/COMPASS mirror. I connected the constant and ignition wires to the (M1) harness at the J/B Fuse Block under my dash. I think the wires were colored Green/Black stripe and Green/light green stripe. Could that have something to do with it? Does anyone know what those wires are for? I could not identify them from the Service Manual.

Finally, thanks to a forum such as this, I found a cure.... I sprayed all the door mechanisms with WD40. After working the product into the latches, the door ajar light only lights now when a door is in fact, ajar. The auto lock feature (which I like) also works as intended. Since you know which door is acting up, you may want to try this remedy. If your latches/swtches did get wet, or even slightly corroded, this may be the ticket Can't imagine it hurting anything (however, no warranty expressed or implied). Keep us posted.

Thanks guys for your input.
Mr3putt, Since the door light is know off, I will leave it alone. I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem in the MO. I'm just hoping it won't come back....like after my warranty period.

GMTURBO43,
Thanks! At the least - I know I'm not crazy. Curious - one poster mentioned that their Mo had a plunger type switch. I think mine is integrated with the door latch.

Big gun, that was me but at the time it was only an assumption. I still don't know what the trigger is for this switch. I'm just glad that it never happened again. Bob1

I find that if I leave any of the four doors or rear hatch open (i.e. not completely latched) the display screen will beep and tell me which door is open after I've driven for about 20 feet.

Interesting, my 03 SE AWD with 44k is now having the rear hatch handle stick kind of halfway between open and closed occasionally which causes the same door ajar warning. It did it twice this last weekend while the wife and I were running errands.
It also disables the latch completely when it's stuck, in that the lock unlock on the key fob doesn't operate, and neither does the latch manually. The fix is to manually insure that the latch returns to it's closed state, then hit the lock and unlock on the keyfob, and then everything's OK. Got to check for adequate lubrication on that latch mechanism this weekend. Wonder if these issues are related in some way? |

BUMP Hey this rear hatch thing just started acting up for me. At first, I would just jiggle the handle back in place. Last night however, I really had to play with the handle, press the lock/unlock on the fob, close the trunk, play with the handle. etc., etc., etc... Long story short, I'm "going in". I plan on popping off the interior panel on the hatch and figure out the problem. Does anyone have any tips, diagrams, experience or solutions for this issue? Thanks in advance.
