One common reason for the SES light to come on is a bad TPS or Throttle Position Sensor. If that is in fact the case I don't think it is so major that will cause immediate failure (my light came on a vacation trip in 100 degree plus temp) and I drove nearly 600 miles after that high speed before I got home and had a chance to take it in and the MO performed flawless even with the light on. However, you want to be sure that is the cause. Go to autozone or a place like that to read the code. Then you can decide how fast you want to get to the dealer. If still under OEM warranty dealer will fix it free.

the 05 and older MO's where pretty bad with the throttle position sensors. when ours went on our mo the SES light came on alond with a couple other lights(i think it was the slip and vdc light) and the MO when into limp mode then was normal after restart, but SES light stayed on. have someone(other than the dealership) pull your code for you.

can someone post the service manual steps to pull the code at home on your own for this member i would, since i have a service manual, but i have no idea how

I had a very similar problem a couple of days ago (2004 about 23000 miles)

Out of the blue, when I hit the accelerator, it felt like I was stuck in some horribly low gear, so I crawled along until finally I had to stop. I shut down and restarted the car, and it drove fine afterwards. I'm not sure if that sounds the same as the OP description of "losing power."

At the same time, the Check Engine Soon light popped on. I read through the manual and presumed it was some kind of CVT issue.

I took the car in to the dealer and for some reason the only thing the tech wrote down was the engine light issue, and I guess he passed it on to someone else. So... they addressed it by replacing the battery and then re-setting/re-programming the light. They also mentioned the throttle thing and first said they replaced it, then later said they didn't (grrr).

So I'm leery the original issue was never addressed and I have some lingering CVT problem waiting to bite me. I'd like to think it was just a battery issue all along (and that's what the original tech told me, though I suspect he was just blowing me off so he could go home). Does it sound reasonable that the low battery would cause the whole series of events?

Maybe some of the guys here can answer this. I called Nissan on Monday and reported the problem my wife had and asked what they wanted me to do as the dealer here in town is no longer a Nissan dealer and the closest one is 65 miles away.... so drive there ? tow ?? It is now Thursday 11am and no call back from Nissan !! So much for customer service !

I had a similar issue with my 06 Mo 20,000 miles. It turned out to be an EGR hose came loose. It felt gutless from a dead stop but it drove ok when it was running above 2000 rpms. I thought it was something worse but it was an easy fix.

Did this trigger a check engine light?
