I know there is an inherent trust and comfort for members when they deal with long term members on a site vs. those that have newly joined but zero posts or 1000 posts, at the end of the day does it really matter? Anyone can take you to the cleaners.
Personally I like to limit the activities of new members until they establish themselves too, but ultimately the responsibility for safeguarding against "bad people" is with the would-be buyer. He/she needs to be aware and do his/her homework and research when dealing with other people online. Just as you have, there are ways and tools available for the members to look at other member's post history. There are also ways to make purchases on line so you would have some degree of comfort that you will get what you have been promised.
I do appreciate your concern however and will take it to the admin and see what he has to say.
