Synthetic oil and warranty?

Hi,
I would like to start putting synthetic oil into my 09 murano. It's at 25k right now. What effect does it have on the warranty and the secure+plus warranty? Obviously I don't want to change the synthetic at every 3750 miles. More like at 7500.

Nissan consumer affairs was no help, they couldn't find any official information on it...they just said "you should be fine".

The dealer advised to stay with the schedule, synthetic or not.

So, those of you who use syntetic oil, has this affected your warranty?

No! Its just oil.. Anything to modified the motor or the suspension will usually affect your warranty.

yeah, but if it doesn't follow the recommended maintenance schedule, does it void the warranty?

Think of it this way. Many people do their own oil changes. If I'm doing my own, and I'm changing it every 5k or 7.5k instead of every 3k, how will they know unless they can prove that any problems caused were because of a lack of lubrication?

Many people on this forum are doing a 7.5k interval (or longer) and no problems with voiding warranties reported so far.

The use of a synthetic motor oil will not void your warranty. I can not believe the clowns at Nissan Consumer Affairs did not know this.

I use Mobil-1 with a 7,500-mile change interval.

I think the OP's main question has to do with the maintenance interval, not specifically with synthetic. The key with synthetic is that due to the better oil and longer lifespan, plus the higher cost, you would want a longer distance between changes, which is where the concern comes from.

Dealers have supply agreements with various companies and get good wholesale prices on oils. You never know what they put into your car. They will always tell you "it meets Nissan specs" and they will be right.

The use of synthetic oil will not void the warranty. As to the OCI - follow the Nissan recommended schedule and you will be right.

I'll be doing what njjoe is doing, every 7500 Mobil 1 with a Mobil oil filter.

You should be running synthetic in all your cars, period. It's better oil and good insurance for your engines.

Manufacturers set minimum standards and synthetics generally exceed those standards in just about all respects.

In many of my cars, I change filters at 5K mile intervals and do a complete oil and filter change at 10K intervals.

Only in your cars? I switched to synthetic in my lawn mower and snow blower years ago!

Me too

BTW, my pressure washer requires full synthetic! Not sure why, I guess because it is Honda engine......

Mobil 1 guideline is 15,000 miles or 1 year whichever comes first. I simply change oil and filter every year since I could never drive 15K miles per year. My former Porsche Boxster came with Mobile 1 from the factory and their schedule says the same as Mobil 1 guideline: 15K/1year. Same with my current MBZ SLK.

What about the weedwacker and chainsaw? You aren't neglecting them, are you?

I was gonna claim I used synthetic in my power toothbrush, but that would be Just Plain Wrong.

There is a good point that should not be missed - regardless of what oil you run, you must observe the manufacturer's recommended oil change intervals (and document it) to maintain warranty coverage. If you blow a few extra bucks on the oil changes during the warranty period, it's no big deal.

Nope, Joe - those, along with my leaf blower, are all 2 stroke. If they were 4 cycle engines, they'd have synthetic in them too. And I'm still back in the 90's with my electric pressure washer. Come to think of it, my air compressor is also electric. I've been slacking!
