Question Timing Chain or belt on 3.5 V6?

Since the owners manual that came with my car is focused on the bells and whistles more so than the actual mechanical car with almost no info about scheduled service ect, what a joke, there is about 10 pages about changing light bulbs but nothing on basic service.

I was wondering if the 3.5 V-6 has a timing belt or a timing chain and if there is a factory recommended replacement interval for whatever it has?

The CVT is driven by a chain. Don't believe you replace it unless something is wrong.

Did the previous owners not leave you with the separate manual detailing maintenance items and suggested schedule depending on driving conditions.

Nope got a general owners operator manual which is pretty much all about the bells and whistles and half a book about seat belts and air bags and the only other book is all about the Nav system. No maintenance manual came with it. Not surprised , as I got it used from a dealer who got it through an auction, the car came out of Ill. originally.

I was Not talking about the CVT I was wondering if the engine had a timing belt or timing chain or if the cams were gear driven ect. Most engines have a timing belt that needs to be replaced every 100K or so but I read through an online link to factory serviceintervals and it says nothing about either.

Chain and or gear drive is good, one less maintenance item to worry about long term like timing belts.

W and F,

The VQ actually has three (3) timing chains. Fortunately for us they are all maintenance free with no replacement schedule.

The Murano has a timing chain not a belt. There really is no maintenance interval that I'm aware of, but suffice to say, it is a long way out. Good luck with that sweet CAB!
