Gas Cap..?

cudos everyone ..

this morning i went to fuel up the murano and to my surprise as i unscrewed the
gas cap off 1 half stayed screwed in
the filler neck, and the other outside part in my hand..?, i managed
to snap it all back together again, and tried it a couple more times

turning it, to close and open and it worked. with no problems, and no
engine Light came on either, so obviously i have a defective OEM nissan gas cap part. wich im
thinking should be covered by nissan because it falls under emissions right.? even though its
out of warranty and my murano is 07.?? has this ever happened to anyone else.?

Just get a NON-metallic lever (no sparks where there is gas vapor, please), back the broken off part out and stop by the parts store for a $12 replacement. Not worth a trip to the dealer considering the time and gas involved.

You are correct. In the US, the gas cap is covered by the Federal Vehicle Emission Control Limited Warranty. Unfortunately the term of the warranty is 3 years and/or 36,000 miles. In California the cap would be covered for 3 years and/or 50,000 miles.

I do not know how the warranty for your Canada-spec MO is structured, but I doubt it is any more generous than ours. Assuming that is the case your cap will be out of warranty. I suggest you review your manual.
