Oil capacity?

I read the owners manual and it says 4.25qts which seems low on the dip stick. Nissan helo site says: 5.3 qts: http://www.nissanhelp.com/Models/200...ifications.htm

What is best?

I can just fill to the mid point between L & H.

What amount do you put in?

With filter change I usually put 4 1/2 qts. 5 1/4 qts is for "dry" engine, i.e. rebuilts.

Never needed to add...

I use 5 quarts, which puts it right up to the H line.

HOWEVER, when I change my oil I make sure the engine is warmed up first, and I let it drain for a full hour. So it'd be pretty close to a "clean" engine.

manydubs-

Like Corin, I take my time and drain as much oil out of the engine as is practical. It then takes 5 quarts to "fill" it up.

I end up only adding 4 qts (with filter) and that brings it up to about half. I let it drain for a bit but I do NOT use ramps, the car is level when I drain it.

I use ramps. Usually wait for 15 - 20 min and make sure the engine is worm. Than I put 4 1/2 qts. The level is somewhere in the middle between high and low marks.

Gonzo and Kris-

You got my curiosity going. Why do you fill the crankcase only to the mid-mark on the dipstick?

Overfill kills engines. It is easier to add oil that have too much of it!

Kris,

When you are finished with the oil change, do you top-off the oil so that the level is at the "HIGH" mark on the stick?

No, never. Neither of my VQ engines burns oil. I never top it off as there is no need for it.

Is it just me, or is this the hardest to read dipstick ever?

No, it is not you. I have the same problem. Especially when the oil is fresh....

The dipstick is in the filler tube, so it gets nicely coated with oil after you fill it. Not very convenient.

The dipstick is in the filler tube?? You're kidding right? Please tell me you are not adding oil through the dipstick tube.
