Newbie here. Nice forum. Glad I found it.
Picked up a nice used 07 Murano last year. Its an AWD S model. I think we got a decent deal on it. $16,000 and it had 32K on it. Anyway, we found out recently one of the reasons we may have gotten it so "cheap" The stock stereo lacks quite a bit compared to the one in the xTerra we just got rid of. My wife used Sirius with her xTerra and I wanted to put it in her Murano but have it run through the display in the car. I guess that aint happenin because the cheap stock stereo in this unit doesnt have the CAT option on it. Anyone know what my options are here? I mean Im sure replcing the stereo with the Bose 6cd changer system that many other Muranos come with would be quite costly. Any help would be appreciated. |

ok after some research it seems the ONLY way to go with this car is to find a used BOSE system out of a salvage Murano. I have found the head unit for about $300 but will it still sound like crap with the stock speakers?
Any help here would be great. Thanks. |

Welcome to the forum - you'll find this place to be a tremendous source of information.
Like you, I got a 2007 S last year and faced the same dilemma regarding the lousy stereo (I'm assuming you have the same as I do - base radio, non-Bose, single-CD, no Nav, no Satellite). I've never had satellite radio and I'm not interested in it now, but I did spend a lot of time looking at putting an iPod adapter in (this forum was a big help with that). My research led me to discover that there is a harness behind the left rear passenger seat (accessible through the spare tire area) where a satellite radio can go. You can also use this harness to plug in certain iPod adapters (I'm using a USA SPEC PA15-INFI) without having to pull out the head unit. My radio does have the Cat button, so I'm sure I could plug a satellite unit in the back and be all set with it. I'm surprised your radio doesn't have a Cat button. But you may want to check for that harness anyways if you haven't already done so. The other obvious thing to do is replace the horrible factory speakers. Just about anything would be an improvement - its all a matter of how much you want to spend. I replaced all 4 of mine with some cheapies that I got through Crutchfield just to see if it would help and it did. There's a great "sticky" on this forum that gives step-by-step instructions for replacing the speakers in the '07 model. |

Thanks MBurdett.
Looks like the only option that is reasonable is to do just that. I dont have $1000 + to shove into the stereo system and to replace all the components to Bose (Head, Amp, Speakers) will be at least that much even if I pick up all the parts from a junkyard. So Im wondering, If I get a decent amp, replace the speakers and install a separate SAT radio, do you think I can get the sound comparable to the BOSE setup? Thanks. |

My 04 SE (bought new exactly 7 years ago) just hit 94K and I couldn't be happier with it. |

I have an 07 with base stereo, and you can connect satellite - the input is there - just do the research on this forum. I added an audio player input using an adapter and the sound comes in through the stereo. I admit the button-push sequence to access that input is rather confusing, and all it shows on the screen is the input number. It can all be solved by applying enough money...or use a satellite receiver with a display screen that you can read, mount it on the dash and you'll have the input info you need and you can use the stereo for sound.

Sorry Pilgrim and Nafdur.. just frustrated is all.
But ya gotta admit the seat thing is crap. Nissan has no excuse. Anyway, thanks everyone for your replies, I decided to stick with the stock stereo and try to hook up satellite. My friend and I will weld up the seat frame. Learning more about this car than I expected to. I must admit I like where the oil filter is located. Just remove the front tire, pull back the fairing and there it is. |
