Poor radio reception

My fm reception is poor! I get a station for about a second, then static. Don't think it's the antenna, does anyone have issues like this? Is there some wiring I can check, dealer will charge me $150 just for an estimate. I really want to avoid that.

I moved your post to the more appropriate Audio & Electronics section.

What year is your MO? How far is it out of warranty? Is this a new problem?

I have a 2009 Murano. Problem has actually been going on for about 2 yrs. Started when I had the car overseas and the problem lasted only for a few seconds. Now that I have the car in California, the problem is constant. When I am in rural areas I cannot get any kind of reception at all. It's annoying. I'm out of warranty (I was informed my warranty is only for 1 year), so that expired years ago.

I've seen past posts with poor reception on older Mo's. But is it any different with the 2009?

I notice you have Ipod interface, how extensive is that to install?

Why is the radio not part of the 3-year/36000-mile warranty like everyone else? Is it because you took the MO out of the country? The poor reception may be due to a poor connection in the antenna base. Try a reputable auto-sound shop.

The iPod interface was an amazingly simple installation. If I had to do it again I could have one up and running in about 5 minutes. I am not kidding. The interface box connects to the unused satellite radio connector behind the rear seat. The iPod cable connects to the box. That's it.

I'm out of warranty. Even though it's a 2009 - I actually purchased it in early 2008 when the model first came out. So, if it's a easy fix, I want to avoid the high cost of the dealer for what could be just tightening a plug.

Will try the ipod interface. Thanks!
