So... I was wondering... how many people are going to keep their Murano over 100,000 miles or until dies. Keeping your Murano for the life of your vehicle... until it dies... a 'LIFER'... anyone here thinking of being a lifer with their Murano?
Also, I'm wondering who has the most milage on their Murano to date? Anyone? Anyone? |

As much as I like this car, I will most likely trade it in before the powertrain warranty expires. I don't like the thought of paying a $6,000 repair bill (CVT) on a 6-year old car.
Nissan has dropped the ball "big-time" on this one. The all-important cost of ownership skyrockets if a CVT fails out-of-warranty. -njjoe

No, I am not the "lifer". I already traded in the Murano at 94,000 miles. It was sad to get rid of a vehicle that was in perfect shape and over-maintained! And I liked it.....The problem was however the CVT......I just could not live with the possibility of forking out $6k or so on an old vehicle......I will not be surprised if more people will do the same....
On the other hand we planning on keeping the FX for the "life".........just wonder how this is going to play out....

My wife traded in her '03 Murano SL at 112,000 miles ... for an '09 LE. We had no problems at all with the '03 ... all I can remember having to do is replace tires at 60,000 miles. The potential for a big-bucks CVT replacement was starting to nag at me, so that's really the only thing that led us to swapping out the '03 for the '09 when we did rather than waiting a while.
Plus, she really wanted the LE goodies: Nav, bluetooth, iPod, Sat, etc. If those things make her 2-hours-a-day commute a little more tolerable, I'm all for it. |

My 88 Chevy Cav - 240,000KM (gone)
My 98 Accord Cupe - 300,000KM (used for deliveries, no issues) My 00 Civic Sedan - 240,000KM (no issues) My 04 Murano SL - 43,000KM I always keep my cars for life. Never sold one yet before its time. BUT - now reading the posts about the CVT repair bill , just dont know That said, i have not seen a single post about CVT crapping out, and there is a lot of Muranos over 100K mark. So im still optimistic.

Although the incidence of CVT failures is relatively small, the cost of repair is so significant ($6,000) for out-of-warranty owners that it warrants consideration for anyone contemplating owning a MO past the warranty period. -njjoe

Don't forget about the 5 year/60,000 mile Powertrain Warranty. That will cover the CVT/X-fer case. -njjoe

The last two reported CVT failures were on 2006 MOs. tikva03 has a 2006 that failed at 15,000 miles. SliderJeff had 10,000 miles on his 2006 when it failed. The good news is that it appears that many (most?) CVT failures are preceded by a tell-tale oil leak. If you catch it in time the failure might be averted. -njjoe

I will keep the MO for 2 more years.
I will sell her with a few miles/months of warranty left (I have the 7/70K) and never look back. She has been a good, but not great, car so far. I still enjoy driving it. It is extremely unlikely i would ever buy another one. The dealer experience (at both dealers) was just too rough, and I know I can buy a comparable CUV with an auto trans where they actually repair them if they go bad. Homer

I just paid my Murano off... a 5 year loan in exactly 3 years... not bad, ah. So now that I'm car payment free (wife uses a company car everyday, she's in pharm sales) I think we'll save the future months payments and go to ARUBA !!
By the way, I love my Murano and can't picture having a better car at the moment, so I think if the CVT will hold up, I'll keep her forever !!!!!!! |

Everyone will be happy to know that I had a talk with my CVT in which I also included the battery in our meeting... I plan on keeping the MO for at least 10 years... all parties are in complete agreement.
Correct me if I am wrong.... I don't recall the CVT having issues but rather seals failing thus leading to transfer case issues or CVT issues but the initially issues were NOT with the CVT themselves. Am I wrong?
