I'm still a Jeeper at heart but I LOVE my Murano.

Yeah, I miss my Jeep (and the places I could go with it). I had an '87 Cherokee and an '01 Cherokee. Unlike a lot of other people, I went offroading regularily. Thinking about getting a YJ as a second vehicle.

Is the MO considered an SUV? We haven't figured out what it actually is!! LOL. I would have to say, this would be my first bc I hate SUVs. I think they are dangerous (ford + bad tires = death) IMHO and I hate SUV drivers....they drive me insane! I think some people drive these huge machines and really don't have any concept or clue on driving.

Anyway, that is my humble opinion on that subject!!

So this would be my first...but I don't really consider it an SUV, it's much more managable than a huge beastie!!

Yes, definately. And every time I see a muddy/rocky/snowy trail I think... "If only I had my Jeep with me..."

I'm with Nicole. This is my first. I've resisted a long time because there wasn't an SUV out there to suit my needs. In fact, most SUV's in my area (Washington, D.C.) don't fit the needs of their drivers. I see a TON of extra large SUV's (think H2, Expedition) with only a single driver - and certainly none that take their SUV's off-road or other heavy-duty applications for which the vehicles are designed. But I digress... What I really needed was something that would meet the following criteria:

1. do well in inclement weather
2. have room for the wife, son and two dogs
3. have some luxury (did my share of "base" models in my youth)
4. have good gas milage (at least 20 mpg)
5. have good road manners, but not drive like a Cadillac
6. be rated to tow at least class II (3,500 pounds)
7. look sharp
8. cost $35K or less (had to fudge a bit on this one).
9. not be a rollover deathtrap on public roads like a lot of other SUV's (cough "Ford" cough).
10. be capable of "light" off-road duty.

For the longest time, that need was filled with the Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan that we have (except the off-road stuff). I had no problems whatsoever being seen in it or driving that great vehicle. I'm pretty secure with myself not to sweat an "image" issue with minivans. Love 'em. But we needed to replace my aging 94 Camaro since I coudn't keep taking the minivan all the time and leaving my wife stranded in the winter. The Murano is the only vehicle that came close to meeting all the criteria (had to spend a bit over $35K), so it won out. Two minivans would have been overkill.

Wow - lots of people with Jeeps.

I really miss selling mine. I traded it in on the Typhoon because it didn't make sense for a single guy to have 2 cars I REALLY miss it.

If I can talk my wife into it - the Murano's replacement will be a new Wrangler. I'd rather have a CJ - but she won't go for that as a daily driver. At least the new ones are a little more refined.
