Default My homemade intake

Will post ingredients later, but total cost was 10$. Sound wise there is a difference, has a slight wooosh when revving, haven't road toasted yet. Pipe is going to be painted soon too.

Atta boy! Talk about taking the initiative to do it yourself!

Just a thought...but f you shorten up the tube some more you'll get the MAF sensor assembly closer to the throttle body. Then you can fit a high flow cone filter of some kind in the space where the stock air box is. You could fashion a box around the cone filter so you're not sucking in the hotter engine compartment air. The input to that box would the the existing piping that leads to the intake just above the grill.

Good idea!

I like what you did, but what are you trying to achieve?

Just get rid of the silencers, and make it look clean.

That box doesn't just reduce noise from the intake. It also reduces intake air oscillation mostly at low RPM.

I read about it in Engine Management Advanced Tuning by Greg Banish. It's called a Helmholtz resonator.

According to some research I've been doing, a Helmholtz resonator doesn't affect performance, mostly sound at lower RPM.

It's not going to make a big difference as far as performance, but I prefer that the ECU get the most accurate and consistent data possible. I've read the same thing on various forums, but I put more trust in people that actually do ECU tuning and data logging. People also cut the screen out of the MAF housing to increase flow. Sure it will flow more, but now the flow across the sensor won't be consistent and the MAF scaling will be off. AFR and load calculations will also be off which throws of timing.

I agree, I don't know why people mess with MAF's either. Once my warranty expires next November, I'll most likely install a piggyback system so I can datalog and tune on the go. I actually removed the intake a made and put the stock one back on because I had to take it in for service, car was throwing an SES light and Nissan dealer had to replace 2 02 sensors on bank 1 and also a complete ECU and radiator. So for now I'm running stock.
