Some desert racers use foam. (Motorcycles)
And throw them away after every race.

Racing machinery is not always a good barometer for street use.

These same Motorcycle racers rebuild their motors every off season.

I was recommending the use of the K & N product for either their own filters (which I later had on my 69 Firebird, or on the JWT Pop Charger Element I recently installed, which is basically the same material. Personally, I would not use foam for a filter element. Of course I had a bad experience with that a long time ago, when my 350 big block with an agressive 3/4 cam, occasionally caused some flashback up through the carb, and twice my foam filter melted (mounted right on top under a trans-am shaker hood scoop)

Publicity is publicity and it is worth the value that you want to attribute to it. I prefer to give it no value but it's only me. The fact is that the engines exposed to the worse dust conditions are protected with foam filters that a few thousands of engineers from a few decades decided to be the best for the worse conditions that any engine can meet.

Motocrosses, bikes and ATVs are not all built for racing. Many among them are not designed for racing at all but they do come with 3 years warranty.

K&N advertises something, Amsoil advertises the opposite, but engineers pick whatever is the best for their particular product and I have never seen a product that always was and still is the consensus among all engine brands (Polaris, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, .............) than the air foam filter.

I may believe what I want but I very much prefer for my bikes to rely on decades of experience from the best motor engineers in the world, rather than on some profane and enthousiasts opinions.

Exactly Grip and the comment from the George Morrison letter is very logical and most probably 100% exact.

There is nothing that filters air better than the stock paper filter. I think that this is a consensus here.

The only reason why motocross and ATV engines do not use paper filters is because of the high level of humidity that they usually are confronted with during their use. Wet paper does not let the air flow so the engine dies. Paper having the highest absorbtion capacity, even if it is exposed to water only in one extremity, the filter will become entirely wet in a very short time.

Ok, then what? Let's use the second best option. Foam. Foam and cotton do not absorb water as paper does. Foam is less restrictive than paper but a little more restrictive than cotton according to all tests conducted by serious independent shops.

What this means is that foam will let less crap go by than cotton.

More restriction = Better filtration
Less restriction = More power but weaker filtration

Talking $99

Yup,
Just ordered one from him, $99 shipped.
But they are on the backorder till next Tuesday.

Just to let you all know guys, i have placed the order for the same item from Everything Nissan, came out to $103.79 shipped, not bad either. Waited 8 days after which emailed them to get my tracking info. No reply within 24 hrs, next day get an email from DHL that Everything Nissan is shipping something to me and i was like wtf, sounds like i simply reminded them of my order. Now i come home and there is a tag from DHL that they tried to deliver it and i wasn't home...

The point is that I will NEVER be home to take that delivery and i DID provide them with my office address as my ship to address.

Sent them very rude email about how many times can you screew up with one small order and asked them for the full refund. Now again, 3rd day after email and still NO REPLIES !!!

Just noticed this post, but my gf just got her CVT replaced free with a Injen intake installed and the dealer didn't mention it at all. Whats weird is that they did try to blame the problem on the Kenwood stereo
