My Toyos are already down to 2/32" with only 18,500 miles. So I need new tires, but only Toyo makes a P235/55R20. I am thinking of switching to a different manufacturer and using either 245/50R20 or 255/50R20. Will either or both of these sizes work? I am concerned about misreads on speedometer and odometer because of the different diameter. The 255s will be closer to actual speed, but I don't have a clue as to whether or not this size tire will negatively impact suspension and brake components. Also, how might the size difference impact ride? Finally, any suggestions on tire manufacturers? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The Toyo replacement tire had a hefty $360/each price tag. Two Nissan dealers and NissanUSA all told me to go with the original 235/55R20 that only Toyo makes. Considering I only got about 20,000 miles on the first set, there was no way I was going to to be roped into going with the same tire again. After some research, I opted for the Yokohama Parada Spec-X in the 255/50R20 size. These tires are 20mm wider than the Toyos, but have an almost identical circumference. This circumference helps keep the speedometer and odometer readings relatively accurate. Installed cost with nitrogen was $190 per tire, almost half the price of the Toyo tires. This size looks great on my MO and the Paradas seem to handle better than the Toyo tires, work great on wet pavement, and run as quiet as the Toyo tires.

I bought the tires through my local Infiniti service department. I think they included the nitrogen for free. My local Nissan dealer charges $15/tire. I have not run across any of the local tire shops that even offer nitrogen; seems that it is only available at the dealership service departments. A side note - I couldn't be without the nitrogen here in the Denver area. The high altitude and seasonal temperature changes cause the tire pressure monitoring system to trigger during cold weather. This triggering was a big problem with my Gen1 Murano and I assume would have been an issue with my Gen2 Murano.

Do you happen to live in a region that experiences snow? I'm curious how well those Yokahama's did for you in the snow. I have the OEM Toyos on my 2009 LE. I'm seeing the exact same wear at ~18,000 miles. The Tire Rack lists the P235/55R20 as an available size for the Parada Spec-X. I am considering them. Thanks.

Just an update, I got about 25,000 miles from the Parada Spec-X tires. There was still a couple thousand miles of wear left, but I wanted new tires as winter was approaching. I now have Hankook Ventus AS 265/50R20. These tires are even wider than the Parada Spec-X tires that I had. These also handle very well in all winter conditions. Depending on price, both the Parada Spec-X and Hankook Ventus AS are excellent alternatives to the high priced, under performing OEM Toyos. |

I just went through this issue as well with my 2009 LE model. The Toyo's would not even hold air and were completely gone at 30,000 miles. I did a great deal of research and found that if I went slightly wider to a 255/55R20 I could get the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza with a 65,000 tread warranty. This seems to be a great choice and after about 1,000 miles they are very quiet, the ride and handling are far superior to the Toyo's, and they have not even worn the nubs off the tread. I won't be able to address how they will fair down the road yet, but so far I am very happy with the choice.
