Hi All,
I have just taken ownership of my first Nissan Murano which I am very pleased with! I am looking to fit a couple of aftermarket mods in order to make it look the part. I am after some 22" alloys, side steps and possibly lower the suspension. Dont think I want to do much more than this at this stage. I am looking for a black & white answer from other owners regarding the acceptable wheel size for my Mk1 2008 Murano (UK). I can see from other posts in this forum that many users agree a 265/35/22 tyre on a 22" rim will fit fine with no rubbing whatsoever, even on full lock. I spoke to a wheel dealer who advised that the Wolfrace Genesis alloys I wanted ( http://www.wolfrace.co.uk/design_det...hp?wheelID=193 ) would not fit as they were 22x9.5 - he suggested the maximum I should go for is 8.5 which only comes in 20" diameter (I would be looking at them and wanting 22"s if I accepted the smaller size....) Basically, what are my options with regards to wheel size in the 22" range - I understand I NEED to be running 275 or less tyres to avoid wheel rub too? Thanks in advance. I agree with the 8.5" width. Look for another wheel you really like that is offered in that width if you have your heart set on 22"s. IMHO, 20" wheels look great on the MO with a 265/50-20 tire. Gives you enough rubber for decent driving and a few pot holes to boot. Besides, the increse in turning radius from OEM 18" to OEM 20" wheels was considerable. Can't imagine what it would be like with 22"s. Hope this helps and take care!
Jim

Thanks Jim
The sensible part of me is saying "go for 20's" as I agree they will look the part and I should also maintain a half-decent ride. This is an important factor when you consider the state of many of the UK's roads!!! And people wonder why I complain that I pay £460 a year in road-tax alone!!! |

If you run 22's, the sidewall profile you will have to run means that if you ever hit a pothole, you can probably kiss that wheel good-bye. You may also negatively affect both braking and acceleration by increasing the weight and inertia of the wheel/tire combination.

So, I have eventually decided to go for 20" wheels (see link below)
Buy 20 Inch Dare Madisson Alloy Wheels | 20 inch Alloys | Dare Alloys The default tyre selection on this website is 275/45/20. I read an article that stated an upgrade by 2" in rim diameter should use the following maths to find the right tyre; Increase the tyre section width by 20mm Decrease the tyre aspect ratio by 20 points Increase the wheel rim diameter by 2 inches The standard tyres on my Murano are 225/65/18 so this would equate to me fitting 245/45/20 tyres in order to maintain accurate speed / fuel economy figures. Any advice on this?? Last edited by MHood; 01-20-2012 at 05:53 AM. Reason: Spelling Error |

Found this excellent website which pretty much clears everything up;
Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing 1010tires.com I compared the following sizes with my stock size (275/45/20, 265/45/20, 255/45/20, 245/45/20) and 265/45/20 are very close to maintaining speedo accuracy and wheel diameter so I will pursue this size. Failing that, 275/45/20 are the next best option (and seem more widely available). |

Since you're going with 20s, it's good you're going with a lipless design.
For me the wheels you're considering has too many spokes and too many bolt holes. Try to find one that has a more concave face too. I like these MMRs. They'll look good on a Mo also. Aftermarket Wheels Gallery - Page 6

Thanks for the feedback. I agree, those MRR Alloys look great. Unfortunately I am unable to source those in the UK so I would have to purchase from the US (as I did with my chrome sidebars and saved a fortune). I would need to be 110% certain that these are going to fit first time of asking, without any modifiying or special nuts or spacers......
Does anyone have any comments regarding the 265/45/20 tyre choice? I am mainly looking for reassurance that I am not going to have any issues with fitment!! I have had a very quick look and can see the 20x8 (114.3 offset) being offered @ $300 each; MRR HR-4 HR4 Diamond Cut/Black Wheels I would obviously be subject to a tax hit and big delivery charges too so it needs some thought |
