Red face bridgestone vs goodrich and 18" vs 17"?

Hi I'm new to this forum hoping someone can help! I did pull lots of valuable information from other threads but thought I'd ask and hope to get a more defined answer.

Got a quote to get winter tires on my 2009 murano. First question is which quality of tire is better bridgestone or goodrich? Secondly one mechanic is trying to sell me on 17" tires vs 18" tires. he says that its a significant cost savings and that I wont really feel the difference in the drive. Is this true? I've had other mechanics offer the same information. Its a $400 difference so i want to make sure I am making the right decision.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

One more thing, tires suggested were Bridgestone Blizzaks 235/65R18 (difficult to get and expensive) or Goodrich 235/65R17.

Go to discounttire.com and tirerack.com and check out the tire reviews there. You'll get a lot of info.

Personally, I'd stick with 18's and match the OEM size to keep speedometer accuracy.

Blizzaks are probably the best winter tire made...and they cost accordingly.

Yeah, if you wanna do it right get the 18s. But do you really need winter tires? Do you live up the mountains and deal with snow every season? If yes, its a good investment. Otherwise, you may not need it. Do you have AWD? if yes, maybe an aggressive tread all season tires maybe enough for your situation. Just drive according to the road conditions and you will be fine.
