Default Passenger Airbag Sensor Recall?

A friend of mine who drives a 2007 Altima just sent me this link. Apparently the recall consists of "140,000 Nissan Altima cars from the 2007-2008 model years. It also involves 2007-2008 model years of the Infiniti EX35, G35 Sedan, G37 and the Nissan 350Z, Murano and Rogue."

Has anyone else heard of this recall yet?

I've read about it. Both of my Nissans are involved. But I haven't got anything in the mail yet.

Just FYI...the SRS light in our 07 Murano started blinking today! Not sure if it's related to this recall, but I'll find out next week after the dealer takes a look at it...I'll keep you guys posted.

How strange. My 07's airbag light began flashing on Saturday (1/17). Dealer says the diagnostic module is bad - had to order one. Hopefully it will be in this week.

Interesting indeed.

So was this something covered by the recall? If not, how much is the part/labor going to cost you?

I don't know if it's part of the recall or not. I'm still under warranty, so it will be handled that way.

UPDATE: Just had our MO checked out today by our local dealer. The diagnosis sensor unit is bad...I assume this is the same part you mentioned. It is not part of the huge recall above. The part costs $711 + labor.

I'm a little ticked to say the least...at 39k miles this should not be happening. The airbags are not operational right now because of this. I'm waiting for the service manager of the Nissan dealer in Ithaca to call me back so I can discuss this with them.

Any advice?

According to my 2005 warranty booklet, "Air bags and related electronic control systems are covered by the Powertrain warranty."

Is the diagnostic sensor unit part of the air bag control system? If so, and if your MO has less than 60,000 miles then the replacement of the diagnostic sensor should be covered under warranty.

UPDATE #2:

njjoe, you are correct.

Dealer 1 (where I had the MO diagnosed) was unaware that this was part of the powertrain warranty. So I called dealer 2 (where I bought the MO) and they told me that it should be covered. Then I called back dealer 1 and told the service rep, who had to confirm this with their warranty specialist. He didn't have a clue that it was covered. Meh.

All is well now. The part is on order and I'm scheduled in for Monday.

That's the same part that failed on my MO. At that price, I'm glad it's under warranty!
