Default Recall Air intake.

Just got my recall in the mail yesterday.

2003–2007 NISSAN MURANO; VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN ENGINE AIR INTAKE DUCT
Nissan is conducting a voluntary safety recall on model year 2003 – 2007 Murano vehicles. Under certain conditions, the intake duct, which is connected to the intermediate resonator in the air intake system of the engine, may separate from the resonator with engine movement. This could cause minor idle fluctuation or poor acceleration. If this occurs, and the vehicle continues to be driven without being serviced, the engine may stall while driving. To remedy this potential condition, Nissan is conducting this voluntary safety recall campaign to replace the air intake duct with an updated part and the air duct clamps with new clamps at no charge for parts or labor.

I have my recall. The thought of having to go to the dealer for ANYTHING upsets my stomach. Since I have had no problem in this area for 6 1/2 years, I am in no hurry..

I've had this pop-off on me about 10 times. Nissan always said nothing was wrong. I am getting mine done tomorrow morning. I never got a notice in the mail so I called and made an appointment.

Thanks to the friendly folks here I found out about this recall.

I haven't gotten my notice, but it's probably because I moved. I need to call them and make an appointment also. I'm hoping this will simultaneously fix the intake pressure release whistle that occurs when I'm slowing to a stop. Sounds like an aircraft turbo engine shutting off! Just not quite as loud

I haven't received a notice either. Does anyone know if this has been recalled in Canada yet?

I got it done this morning took about 30 minutes. So far my biggest improvement is throttle response. I also had a weird noise that I describe as popcorn kernels in a coke can popping around. This happened when getting started on a steep hill, low RPM high torque situation. This is now resolved.

The mechanic said I barley touched it and the hose came off. I said I know I have been messing with it for a year. They acted extremely surprised even though I have been in the shop numerous times for repairs on other things and have mentioned the problem.

Anyway all is good now.

I also got this recall performed today when my car when in for service along with a couple other warranty issues.

Before the new intake, my MO felt like it would gasp for air at a certain point during acceleration. Now, it seems like that problem is solved.

Just had the recall repair performed for the intake system. Next day the Murano would not run. Towed to the dealer and they say I need a new mass airflow sensor; $700. I think they damaged it when they did the repair for the recall, but they will not cover any of the costs.

I haven't got a recall notice yet, but I know what they are talking about.
Ours came off this winter & the MO ran terrible & kept dieing.
After it was put back on everything was fine.

Am I the only one who went into my engine compartment as soon as this problem became apparent a long time ago and just tightened up all the clamps (I think there were 6 or 8 of them) on the intake system?

None of mine were loose enough to cause any of the intake components to come apart, but I WAS able to crank down a thread or two on all of them. I also check once a year when I pop a new air cleaner on and, to date, have never found anything loose.

I really think if one tightens up on the clamps, they can ignore this recall. I know that's what I'm going to do when (or if) mine ever comes.

I have not touched mine and it has not come loose. Well, that is a lie! I removed mine to gain access to the firewall to wire my carputer, and I think the dealer removed it once to clean something several years ago. But it is not giving me trouble so I am not going for the recall if it ever comes, especially now after the horror story posted by LakeDog

Well, I picked up my Murano last night. It's running fine again with the new mass airflow sensor. The Nissan dealer gave me a price break, so the bill was $400, but I found I could buy the mass airflow sensor online for as little as $100 and I know the installation is just a few minutes.
We had driven the Murano 10 miles after the recall work, one way home.
I am calling the service manager Monday morning to discuss the issue.
I also phoned Nissan Motor Company but they were no help. They acknowledged the MAS was removed and reinstalled during the recall work, but did not question the possibility it was damaged by the mechanic. It also does not fall under the 60 month drive-train warranty.
Overall I am still very happy with my Murano. It's been a great vehicle for us.

You just gotta' love the Nissan-USA customer service mentality.

Your mass airflow sensor operates perfectly for 5 years. The Nissan mechanic removes it from your MO, places it on his work bench, reinstalls it, and it then fails after just 10 miles, and they expect you to believe it was just a coincidence?

I wonder if it is any different in Japan? I wonder if the dealers there take pride in the cars they both manufacture and service?

Had mine done last week. I did get a tip from the service guy. I had one of those foam oil covered filters on the MO. He said they were very good but if any oil ever gets sucked into the intake the Mass air flow sensor would get ruined and I would get a check engine light.

I went to auto zone that day and changed out for a standard air filter.
