Exclamation Recall - 2009 - TPMS

The NHTSA has issued a recall (#09V393000) on 2009 MOs that were originally sold or are now registered in the following states:
Connecticut
Delaware
Iowa
Illinois
Indiana
Mass
Maine
Maryland
Michigan
Minnesota
Missouri
NH
NJ
NY
Ohio
PA
Rhode Island
Vermont
DC
West Virginia
Wisconsin

Supposedly the nut securing the sensor to the wheel can corrode due to road salt, crack and fall off. The resulting loss of air pressure will cause the tire to deflate and can result in a crash.

The dealer will replace the nut in question free of charge.

The recall will begin on or before November 9.

Nothing for me yet (I'm in MN).

My dealer, Chantilly, VA, replaced the TPMS and nuts on my 2009 LE Tues, the 13th. Only problem, on of the nuts was not done right and TPMS light went on while I was in lot. Went back in and they fixed in 5 minutes.

I went to the dealer last week for a TSB repair, the advisor said my car was not part of the recall. Not sure why, NY is definitely a salt state.

I understand this but the car recalls part caused residual damage that Nissan will not address. This is not an isolated case. The vehicle engines and CATs were doomed from the day they were built. Nissan acknowledges this through the recall, but their "fix" was only intended to get the cars past the standard warranty life.

I know it has been a month since you posted this, but check again. According to the recall, any 2009 MO originally sold or currently registered in New York as of November 5, 2009, is covered by the recall. Your dealer is either misinformed or purposely misleading you.

I am confused. How did the tire's air pressure sensor cause "residual" damage to the engine and cats?

I had them replaced on my car, but I'm pretty sure it's only the "nut/sleeve" that holds the sensor on the wheel that is being replaced. They only replace the sensor if the nut is so corroded it has damaged the thread of the sensor or it is seized on. When I had mine replaced, along with a complementary oil & filter change, I was out of there in like 30 minutes. No way they R&Red four tires and rebalanced them in that amount of time. Take care!

They mark the tire and rim before they break the bead, then line them up and fill with air.

That makes sense if they replaced the sensor, but only the nut is replaced with the recall…

Take care!

Towards the end of the recall notice (see post above), it states…"Although field, data, testing, and analysis indicates that this is only an issue in areas with heavy concentrations of road salt, owners of vehicles in those non-salt belt States that would like the TPMS nuts replaced on their vehicles will be able to do so pursuant to a service campaign that Nissan will conduct concurrently with this campaign." According to this, anyone could ask for the recall and get the new nuts installed. Take care!
