Has anyone else ignored the most recent (1st gen) recall - the one for the loose intake duct - and suffered any repercussion? I was reminded of this recall again today, when I received my third notice in the mail.
When this potential problem first surfaced, I checked to make sure all of my intake connectors were still tight, snugged each of them up a bit anyways, and went on my way. The car remains running perfectly fine and I still see no reason to disturb the intake system. I figure if the problem crops up in the future (highly doubtful, IMO, as long as I make sure the connectors remain tight) I can take it in then. I'm just wondering if any other 1st gen owners have taken this same approach to this latest recall? |

I haven't gotten any notices, is it for all 1st Gen years?

At any rate, the original notice says `Nissan has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 2003-2007 Model year Nissan Murano vehicles.' It then reference my VIN #, and states that the recall notice applies to my car. So apparently, this recall might not be for all first gen Mos. I DO remember a couple people claiming to have problems after having this intake recall intake work performed, and that Nissan seemed reluctant to admit their problems were related to the recall. Because of this, and the fact that is pretty easy to determine if your own intake connectors are the least bit loose, I have decided to pass on this one. Hence the reason for my original post. I DID have the first 3 recalls performed on my car - those for the alternator replacement, rear seat belt sleeves, and the fuel tank shield. This is the first one that I have opted to (at least for now) ignore, and I am just wondering if I am alone. |

I too have never had any issues with not having it done. Funny thing is that I never recieved any recall notice for our car since we have owned it from new and never had any problems with it.
Ironically; just before selling our MO I had all the recall items performed (intake, alternator and fuel shield). Never had an issue with any; I hope I didn't jinx the new owner

Oh ok, good to know. My salesman said they checked all outstanding recalls before I picked it up and I actually trust him as this is our 2nd car from him. Maybe that's why I haven't gotten any notices. Just curious, what was up with the rear seat belt sleeves?

Since we rarely have anyone sitting in our rear seats, I didn't pay particular attention to the work done on the rear seat belts when that recall was done. But, if I remember correctly, some sort of plastic sleeve (or shield) was put over the outboard rear belts to protect them from chafing against some piece of metal they are routed over. It didn't sound like a big deal and was only a few minute fix (done in conjunction with the fuel tank shield recall). |

I haven't had mine done yet. I double checked the intake on mine and everything seems to be okay. So I'll take care of it when I have nothing else to do. My schedule is pretty tight as it is.

I waited on this until I had to take the car in for another matter. They did the recall at that time. From what I can see, they replaced the hose clamps and the flexible "accordion" section.

I refuse to make a special trip for non-safety related recalls.
I intend to have the intake recall performed when I take her in for the annoying noise that is coming from the rear wheel/dif area. -njjoe

Last three posts sums me up as well. I made sure my intake was tight, and am ignoring it. I refuse to go to a dealer unless I absolutely have to, and this recall (in my opinion) is very minor as long as you make sure nothing is loose.
Honestly, the only time I'll go to the dealer at this point is if there is a major extended warranty item. Even for small things, I'd rather go to my good local mechanic and pay a little more than the warranty deductible if necessary. Next time I do that, I may just take in my recall notice and see if they can do that as well. Even if I have to pay them $20 extra to do it, to me that's worth not having to take it to Nissan and have them screw something else up (again) and cause me another headache and more money...

I have not done it either. I believe in "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" mentality. Plus, I don't want them to damage the air flow sensor...

Good evening, Mr. Z, your car is ready. We replaced the intake duct as per the recall, but unfortunately your MAF sensor was out of spec so we had to replace it. We also had to perform an Idle Relearn procedure, and your brakes needed new pads. The total comes to $1,699. What? You thought this was a no-cost recall? Well we found the bad MAF sensor and replaced it. What? You say the MAF was working just fine when you came in yesterday? Well, we tested the MAF sensor after it hit the floor and it definitely was out of spec. What? You want to know why we had to remove it in the first place? We did not want it to get damaged while doing the recall. What? You want to know why we had to perform an Idle Relearn procedure? Well, our mechanic had just removed your battery to work on installing the new MAF sensor when he had to go on his lunch break. When he came back 90 minutes later your car did not idle properly. What? You just replaced the brake pads yourself 10,000 miles ago? Well they obviously were not OEM so they wore unevenly and need to be replaced by us. What? You have wheel locks and the key is in your possession and you want to know how we removed the wheels to check the brakes? Well we have a universal key, that's how. Would you like to see what else we found during our free 100-point inspection? Mr. Z.? Mr. Z! please put down that hammer...
