2005 Murano 2.5L

Hi

I am considering to buy a 2005 Murano 2.5L. However all the models I have come across seem to be the 3.5L. Is this normal and can anyone tell me what is the engine HP for a 2.5L? And is there anything problematic with the 2.5L engine?

thanks

All US and Canada, and I think Europe, spec. Muranos have a 3.5 VQ engine.

This is a reminder to the OP that filling our your profile helps us answer questions...I don't think the 4-cylinder was sold in the US.

In foreign markets, the Murano can be purchased with the same 2.5L engine in the Altima and Rogue. Its not so unusual - the model is even available in Japan.

If I had to guess, it would have around 170-175hp, and most likely the CVT (although some had also a 4 speed automatic).

This model is not sold in the USA or Canada though.

2003 Midnight Blue SE AWD w/VDC
Colgan Bra, Mobil One, JWT POP charger
PAC aux input adapter, hardwired Escort Passport x50, KUDA mount for MP3 player, Porterfield R4S brake pads (now Akebono ProACT), ATE Superblue
Yokohama Envigor (much improved over stock Goodyears)
Lots of squeaks and rattles.

There maybe no problem with the engine except it maybe NOT be a proper match with the weight of the car. Having driven a 3.5 l MO for years I feel any engine smaller will be insufficent and you'll find yourself always wanting more power. But if that is the only engine offered in your country...It could be more economical to run though.

In '04 when I got my MO seems the trend was v8 engines for heavy suv type vehicles. I was eyeing the durango before the MO and concern with the power of the v6 came up. But after a test drive it was over. You can also sense that concern in the MO reviews back then--but was found more than ample enough.

You are all correct. The 2.5L model I saw was from Singapore whereas the normal available model in the country are 3.5L. that's whay I wanted to check whether this was a genuine one wihout any modification in engine to replace a burnt one!!

And the other thing is, having seen the interior of both the 2.5L or 3.5L, they dashboard, glove compartment, ashtray, middle console etc, all seem to be of cheap plastic, nearly ready to fall off after a few years. It seems like plastic toys without rounded corners. I am saying that compared to the Audi I drive, as I expected the Murano to be the high end type of car.

Do you find out that those things I mentioned above are of good quality and durable, or is it the type built for a SUV off the beaten track car?

thanks

We've had our 04 SE for 5 1/2 years and have had no problems nor quality complaints. We realize, however, that we bought a dressed up Altima - NOT a high end car (relative to other cars, of course). You're not going to get top notch interior materials for under $40K, let's face it. Adequate and very nice - yes. High quality - NO!

As long as nothing has broken or fallen off, and there remain zero squeaks and rattles, we're happy.

Always remember, a Murano is a CUV (car based), not an SUV (truck based).

I've owned Audi, and the Murano is not in the same class. It's a nice Japanese car, but it's not a luxury car, although the upper-end models have some luxury appointments. if you want the luxury version that competes with Audi, you need to look at the Infiniti version.

That said, Audi has a rep (deserved) for issues with small electrical items like switches and sensors. They're magnificent cars to drive, but I find that they're higher maintenance than BMW, their closest competitor.

According to Nissan's Singapore website the 2.5L MO has a 4-cylinder engine which produces 167 horsepower @ 7,000 RPM, 180 ft-lbs of torque @ 5,200 rpm, and has a 9.6 compression ratio.

The US-built QR25DE engines have experienced the following problems:
1) ingested damaged catalyst substrate which resulted in increased oil consumption.
2) Power valve screws loosen and adversely affect idle performance.
3) In 2006, 85,000 Altimas and Sentras were suspected of having unusually high oil consumption and owners were advised to monitor the oil level.

Here is a link to the history of the engine: Nissan QR engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

my MO is 2.5L and I am from Singapore...Here there are 2 version...the 3.5 L and the 2.5L. Basically, Singapore is a city...the 2.5L is more than enough.....

I guess I was bias because I was living in the city of San Francisco when we bought our MO.
