It was about 16° when I left Target yesterday. I pulled the rear gate up about halfway and I'm not kidding, it just collapsed back shut. Parked across from me is a Hyundai Sante Fe. No exaggeration, the woman walks up, pulls the gate up no more than a foot and it springs open fully! Who makes their struts? I WANT I WANT!!

I have used these struts before and they work great.
Need to find the pressure needed first.
I would go a little higher than required.

I know Sachs is OEM for many BMW parts so I would think these are OE quality if not actually OEM. RockAuto has them for $47 ea. I think I will go this route.
So partsbarn.com has these for $82 a pair shipped and installed them tonight. It's 42 degrees out and I can lift the gate about a foot and a half and it will raise the rest of the way by it's self. The last half foot or less takes longer to lift, but it does the job. I guess I'll have to wait to see how they work when it gets down to 30 and how long they last. On a side not I'm not sure I'd go with higher lifting force since it would take more effort to close. OEM is a good balance.
