parts express... I got 2 for 80.00 Strongarm brand.. got them installed and they are still slow to work.. gate goes up half way even with new ones.. I think they don't have enough strength, oem or aftermarket, to lift the gate properly. Temps have been in the 40's to zero since I installed them. my 2 cents

Mine were starting to give out, I did the same process as 333hpdog, AND had the same results. This was during the summer, though, and they seem to behave the same no matter what temp.
I think the OEM ones were better when they were new, but they gave out. I agree, the amount Nissan charges for replacements is pretty staggering. I'd like to hear if anyone managed to get some good strong ones for cheaper. I think Strongarm is a reputable brand for these, but perhaps the way the Murano hatch is designed you just need beefier struts?

Yeah I heard Strongarm was good too, but now I'm not so sure. Nissan is seriously gouging us with these. The OEM ones for my old Santa Fe were $30 each for the gate and about $54 each for the rear glass and they lasted a little longer too.

Mine work properly most of the year until the temps get below freezing. Then I have to help it to the top. On the other hand, my girlfriend likes the gate's "half-mass feature" since she's a shorty

I replaced the supports on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a set purchased at NAPA Auto Parts for around $30/ea. But I just looked at their online catalog and the lift gate supports for the Murano are $124/ea.
Madness. |

How are the Napa ones holding up? Looks like the OEM ones are made by STABILUS PN SG325016. I found them for $82 ea under the STABILUS name. When I did a search by PN only I found two sites that list them as Sachs and mentions STABILUS somewhere in the descriptions. I know Sachs is OEM for many BMW parts so I would think these are OE quality if not actually OEM. RockAuto has them for $47 ea. I think I will go this route.

Shouldn't the spec be starting length, finishing length, and opening force? There should be a lot of options online from what I understand. Should be able to take the different lengths and then choose how much opening force you need. They should not be stopping half way up. That tells me that they're underrated.
Maybe take the ones rated for the MO and bump them up a notch in force so they work all year long?

This reminds me of my Dad's old Firebird - the rear hatch was all glass and weighed a ton. It'd burn through these support struts all the time, to where eventually he got sick of it and just kept an old broom handle in his trunk to hold up the hatch when needed.

If anyone does find replacement ones that work well (and are hopefully less than OEM) please let us know. Mind you, recommendations only count if you have tried them ON A MURANO, as weaker supports may work fine on other types of vehicles.
